Forget the bike, on a less positive note if you start messing with drive train/chassis you're on the verge of playing with your life. Be absolutely sure you know what you're doing and that you do it safely. Setting things up wrong on a bike is receipe for disaster. Brave for taking the rocker cover off, when I first started out I always thought if you removed the rocker cover lots of valves and springs and things would come flying out!

Over the years I've seen chains so slack they could come off and throw the rider off, one fella complaining his front brakes were squeeling and weren't so good. I was thinking the pads were probably down the the metal. Far from it, he'd worn through the friction material, though the backing and the piston was half worn!

As said a manual and torque wrench is a good start. once you get proficient you probably won't even use the torque wrench much.

Fair play for taking the rocker covers off, a better way to make sure everything is still turning would have been to put the bike in higher gear and turn the back wheel by hand and make sure everything is moving ok inside

As others have said, if you get to something you can't do, don't get the lump hammer out and have a go. There are plenty of people on here that'll help out and I'm sure you must know someone mechanically minded. Also if you're going to try something you're not sure about - like cranking an engine with no valve covers (ffs) - then just ask first. The littlest mistakes can cost you a fortune in the long run, or as said above (but don't want to dampen spirits) making an error with the drivetrain could be a pretty serious error if the engine seizes or the rear wheel locks whilst you're at high speeds.

Just be careful and think before you do, you've made a lot of posts lately with rushed ideas and immediate anger (look at the thread title lol) when something doesn't work. It's just mechanics, take 10 minutes away from the bike + tools, go have a cuppa tea (or beer if it's a summer day!) and come back to it with no anger/impatience and a fresh mind.

Failing that I'll chuck you a couple of notes for the bike as it is. :P

haha okay. i have made a stupid mistake now i can see that :P. im done with the bike anyway...its working now, just couldnt get the rear gaskets to sit in properly and honestly i cannot be fucked doing it myself..so im going to the mechanics in a few days so they can fix it for me.

Might be for the best mate :P No point attempting it with the "can't be fucked" attitude as you'll only make things worse and then give up.

yeah well i was really looking forward to fixing it all up myself..but ive already tried fiting the rear gaskets twice and failed both times so im just fed up hence the attitude, and for everyone else..yea i dont have ANY mechanical skills at all as this IS my first project bike..my bike before this was a 2010 yzf r125 which didnt require any mechanical attention :P. and i am 19...so im gonna lack in some knowledge anyway due to my age im sure alot of you here are probably grown men/women with alot of skill and knowledge.

As Demonix says, don't do the bike any more harm because someone here will buy it if you get sick of it. Hell, i'm only 20 miles away. ;)

Get an estimate from a mechanic and report back and see what people say on here. It'll be good advice.

oo nice ur in nairn :D we should have a wee ride sometime, once i get he bike properly running. well i got a quote from mechanics to get the rear gaskets fitten in and they saud 30mis - 1hr labour which is 38 quid an hour...

Absolutely, though my NC 30 is in hibernation until March-ish, probably. After that I'll blast around the A96 a bit and down the quiet side of Loch Ness.

That's about normal for one hours' labour, but is that for rear exhaust gaskets or the rear cylinder head gasket?

:) coool.. ermm cylinder head gaskets to be honest...but i told the guy that it was exhaust gasket..so he may charge more for the cylinder head who knows.
