And today it ran for the first time and only for about 10 seconds, firstly because the was no cooling system hitched up at all and secondly Another mistake and me rushing to get the engine back together and in the bike saw me miss 2 bolts out of the top of the crank case so oil was pissing out of the holes, I'm not bothered the important thing is it ran.
The only shitter is that the 2 bolts I missed are located under the starter motor and under the thermostat so the easiest way of getting to them was drop the engine forward....however this is the point where I ran out of steam and called it a day.
Some missing bolts earlier today.
This how I left it today..
I'll do a bit in the evenings this week but fingers crossed next weekend I will be able to test it properly and get it up to temperature and also check that the gearbox is ok lol.
Phew!!

Yep, cases have to be same cases. Oil galleries won't line up either. Just make sure if you are using the other case all your bearings match up by code and use Plasique Gauge.
Also since you have two blocks (not sure if you have different heads) make sure your cam caps and head numbers are the same.
Looking good so far!

Well fucking hell....leaky leaky bastard.
Pissing oil out from between the cases again so fuck knows what's going on there, I am admitting defeat for the time being and switching back to old faithfull who is going to get a quick going over and the valve clearances done.
I'll come back to the other engine but it's going to have to be stripped right down do try and work out what the hell is happening.
On the more positive side my subframe has arrived and after a bit of fettleing has now been fitted, at first I really didn't like the way the battery box stuck out the bottom but it's grown on me and I like it now.
I did for a while think it was wonky but it isn't after a bit of tweakage.
And I've got somewhere to mount my res now, also sorted the reg rect and the CDI but I'm struggling to find a place for the starter relay..
Tomorrow will be sorting the old engine out and swapping some bits over and maybe getting the engine in the frame.

You have the patients of a saint, i bet you could strip that engine down blind folded now.
Rear end looks spot on and the battery tray doesnt look out of place

Ah Sie came through on the subframe then, she's looking good.

Is the leak in the same place? Do you think it could be a specifc issue with the way you're rebuilding them (no offence intended, please dont take it that way), the same leak on two different sets of crank cases could suggest it

It's the same top half.
It's almost definatly something I've done wrong but that's what learning is all about.
Should have old faithfull fitted tomorrow also need to drill some holes in the front of the battery box to keep my battery cool.

What kind of sealant are you using between the case halves?

I admire your positive thinking, I would be rather pee'd off at this point.
Maybe it is just a issue of a light smear of blue hylomar on the case faces
Are there any scratches or marks on the face where the leak is?
