Little bit of thread archeaology here...
I'm having big old issues with what I think is an air leak.
Swapped some carbs out and fitted an air tray, mounted the carbs onto a warm motor. Lined up the carbs and on the popped...tightened the clamps and all seemed very solid.
fired the the beast up and it was revving to 9k revs! choke not on, slides not lifting at that revs...so is this is proper airleak?
going to update the thread to take into account the new season ahead at EMRA.
not a lot changed over winter - I acquired several wheels, tyres and other gubbins.
If I cannot sort this lot then no9 is donating the RVF carbs to the cause and I'll put up with that!

Interesting one! It could very well be.. you havn't got anything caught between the carb rubbers and the carbs have you? I had a piece of plastic get stuck in some of mine.
Other possible cause is the idle adjuster is screwed in too far!
If your testing for air leaks get some WD-40, Lynx, aerosol in a can and while its running blast the rubber inlets.. you'll know when you find the air-leak as it'll suck whatever you've sprayed into the engine and change the revs!

Yup looks like we are both having carb issues. Hope you get sorted man :)
Had my current set off again last night - reset everything, cleaned the jets...etc etc still groggy and crap at picking up. Not as lean sounding now but still.. not right.
Got some known good ones coming from a nc30 breaker. That makes 3 sets of carbs in the garage now

- anyone need random carb bits give me a shout

Yep - it was an airleak. the front clamps had nipped over the rubber and so it was supping lots of fuel and air - hence the 9k revs.
Reseated it and then all OK. Left it overnight and it decided to flood the oil..
New carbs on - std with airbox and filter - 118/120 jetting. runs a bit scabbily and the proof of the pudding will be in the eating tomorrow when I go to Cadwell with it.
AM taking the RVF carbs of no9 and will take them with me to try out. if it works with the std carbs..good. if not, then I'll try these RVF ones and see how it likes it.
Also fitted an RVF tail with lights, a horn and some std rearsets to get me legal for roadstocks. What fun that is going to be.
Now I have my camera charger found, I'll update this with some piccies and with the next installment as I reckon it is about time I turned it to total loss...

Update on this beast.. It is now a roadstock moto..not fast enough for F400 and so some llights and a horn with std rearsets = roadstocks...easy!
Got me on a 1m04.9 at Mallory on the 7th before I managed to fall off it at 10mph on the grass.
It needs a clutch replacement, new bodywork and a braided rear hose fitting to the brakes.
I'll sort it this week..it will be ready to roll for the next EMRA race on the 25th.
rock on

Replaced my clutch with an EBC road racer kevlar number - 4 springs instead of three and all looking pimp as you like.
Looking forwards to getting some proper drive out of corners on it now!
Also, fitted my new EBC rotors (bargain @ brakes4u)
Re bled the brakes and am now also looking forwards to using them.
Didn't get any pics, but just imagine.... I removed the flywheel and stator coils and nipped it back up - the bike is now a free revving son of a gun. need to figure out my battery life and so for now I'll stick with a YTX9 and make sure it is green for go when I get cracking. Am looking to use a wire to direct link a battery to the starter and get it going that way, saving the onboard for sparking the sparks and driving the CDI.
Additionally have fitted some RVF nosecone and seat unit that I'll take a splash of paint on this week and then get some stickers on it to break it up. -
All in - this bike is looking good for the race on Sunday!

I thought you needed a fully working starter and charging system for roadstocks?

Cms. Is that Stomp grip on your tank? do they do it for the nc30 or is it cut down universal fitment.
