Re: clunking when first pulling away. VIDEO
Cheers for the help mate.
Similar symptoms but my bike also does it at very low revs especially in first gear just after pulling away but only moving slowly ie when in traffic.
Definitely checking the chain, rear sprocket and rear hub first then onto the clutch side of things.

Re: And more issues... clunking when first pulling away.
Checked the rear hub... no side to side movement from the rear wheel and wheel runs smoothly. There is one slight binding point from the rear caliper so I'm pressuming the rear disc is slightly warped.
Spun the gearbox output shaft again and looks straight.
One thing I didn't do yesterday was spin the wheel with the sprocket cover off. I'll do that tomorrow as I've ran out of time today though I did spin the wheel with front sprocket back on (not bolted on) with chain attached to both sprockets (chain not correctly tensioned) and felt no clunk.
I've noticed today that the front sprocket is also a Renthal item, thought I had an oem. The front sprocket bolt seems to have some of the tapered section of the washer missing so need to get a new one of that.

That wear on the bolt is unusual could be the result of the output shaft not running true or been seized onto the shaft before
Would also check rear caliper isnt sticking if you suspect disc is warped .

Re: And more issues... clunking when first pulling away.
I'm very tempted to put a new front sprocket on as there is some play in the current Renthal front sprocket on the spline. I will also get a new bolt and washer.
I've done around 3000 miles on the chain so I'm hoping it will all be OK to introduce a new sprocket?
I've noticed that the oem front sprocket is very different to the Renthal one.

So for those interested....
I've done some more work on the bike and found some things out.
Firstly, with the engine running and idling, not in gear, I can feel irregular what I can only describe as notches when sat on it. On closer inspection it seems to be coming from the clutch area.
If I pull the clutch lever in, the notches go away.
Secondly, after cleaning the chain, sprockets etc and putting it all back together, I ran the bike on the paddock stand and took a video. Looks like a chain problem as well unless something else is causing it to jump like that?

Re: Clunking when pulling away & off throttle at low revs. V
Looks a bit like a tight spot on the chain easy to locate by backing off adjuster and work round chain by hand soon find it sometimes it can be the rivet link if badly fitted or dry fitted by someone.
Would eliminate that first though a problem may be elswhere .

Re: Clunking when pulling away & off throttle at low revs. V
So... when I first bought my bike in the late summer of 2007, I didn't have my license meaning I didn't ride it until after all the work was done to it which included a brand new Renthal chain and sprocket set. The problem I can feel was there when the work was done. It's possible that the guy who did the work didn't put the chain on correctly and messed up the rivet?
The only way to go is for me to get a new chain and sprocket set fitted.
I did find a partial split in the o-ring on the joining link but thought it would cause too much of a problem.

Re: Clunking when pulling away & off throttle at low revs. V
Most of the chain kits ive bought include a small sachet of grease and metal fitting plates for fitting the rivet link plates correctly without damaging the o rings that looks knackered and inner bush in the roller will likely be also.
