I've got one of those penske shocks with remote a double clicker I've just fitted up to an rvf I'm rebuilding never had the opportunity to try it yet it came from a nc30 track bike I bought a couple of years back does appear to be well made and get good reviews not seen another I believe they are a USA based company that specialised in race car suspension with bike and off road as a sideline . I've got a receipt for £873 from 6 years ago from reactive suspension for supplying shock and servicing forks the previous owner had done so reckon you have a decent bit of kit there but may benefit from a shock service due to age use etc .
Worth trying it out first does seem a bonus getting your bike with that fitted you might find your fork internals have been upgraded to match ?

Yeah I did a bit of research online thanks to Google and figure it might be a relatively expensive piece of kit. Will definitely try it out!

Ok, so had a few hrs to muck around in the shed whilst the mini-me was having a sleep.
I need to take the engine out of the frame and strip the bike down to the bare frame to have some welding done.....
I pondered for what seemed a life-time about the easiest way to drop the engine....and eventually decided to just take the wheels and forks off and lay the frame on it's side. Worked pretty well and now I only have 1 last bolt to remove in order to get the engine out......
BUT it's that weird main bolt, that has a castle nut on the exterior and a hex type bolt on the inner. Do you think I can get it undone???!! NOPE. Not for the life of me. I don't have a hex key anywhere near big enough for it either, so I tried using a 12mm bolt and put it head first into the hex-bolt and used some vice grips....that still didn't work.
So I've made a tonne of progress but I'm still slightly miffed at not being able to get the engine loose. I'll whip down to the shop when the wife gets home and see if I can buy a tool to finish the job.
Discovered the steering head bearings are toast too, so must remember to sort those and the wheel bearings when I start to put it back into a rolling frame.

Keen to see what you find works (short of buying the Honda tool) - I have to put an engine into the frame in a few months time...I've heard cutting a socket?

I had a look at Supercheap Auto and Repco and couldn't find a 12mm hex key. So I had a look at Mitre10 Mega and believe it or not found a tool that worked! I bought a pack of 1/4" & 3/8 socket/hex bits which went up to a 12mm bit. That 12mm hex bit on a 1/4" socket worked easy!!

As mentioned earlier, I bought some hex bits so I could take the last engine bolt out. I have finally separated the dirty engine form the frame...progress at last!!


Rocker cover gasket is leaking and the engine needs a good clean, so it will get some TLC once I drop the frame off at engineers.

Here are a few pics.
I am actually going to organize the shed in the near future...I was in a hurry to get the engine out of the frame ok!!

Finally started cleaning the frame. Just used a can of heavy duty degreaser and a scrubbing brush then washed it off with the garden hose. Frame has come up a treat!! Stoked. Thought it would be way tougher to remove all the grime to be honest???

Frame is pretty clean, I've got a touch of OCD and can easily get carried away with meticulously cleaning things....so I had to pull it back a bit and remind myself that most of the frame will be hidden by components.





Frame is now in the boot of my car and I'm dropping it off at engineers in the morning to have tabs welded back on.
Rims are at powder coaters and will soon be a pretty vibrant repsol orange (hopefully...because colours are limited at powder coaters).
Main priority is to get a rolling frame in the next few weeks.

Hmmm....got my rims back from the powder coaters today and I'm not very impressed......looks like they either didn't put powder on in some places or they inadvertently blew it off when they were cleaning the powder of the mating surfaces???
Gutted.
I guess it won't be so obvious once the brake discs are back on etc etc but I'll still know.....
