I know this will sound well dodgey, but, could you get the remains of the old ballrace out, clean up the hole (ooeerrrr) and try a new bearing and see if it fits ok? I don't suppose a new ballrace will cost much unless its a special one, and maybe worth a try, if its nakered you wont damage it any more.

Just a thought

The bearing has a locating ring that goes 180 deg. If you got another you could put them at right angles to the cases that will hold the bearing. You could also Three Bond it to give some additional hold

But again all this messing about for an engine

You wouldn't want that lot letting go flat out in top gear!
Or any other speed for that matter.
