Hi All:

I'm see a lot of action recently regarding pistons here. I am still recovering from my surgery and have lost my job from being out of work so long. So.....my focus has been on that, not the pistons. So sorry.

The main reason I can't get pistons made is because I can't find more of the 57mm Yamaha rings. I have found plenty of Kawasaki 57mm rings, but they do not fit the current piston design. I was going to try and have a reputable ring company make me more rings so I could then start making the pistons again. But, I just have not had the time to do this yet.

Pistons and rings are the heart of making Horsepower, and their reliability is key to not wasting all your money. Don't go jumping into unknown piston builders, or unknown specs. Take my word for this, as we have found out the extremely expensive way.

Omega is selling copies of what look like our design (without our permission I might add). They are also designed for the Yamaha 57mm rings, so it's still the same problem.

There is really no way around the issue. The first problem to solve is getting rings that are identical - or better than the Yamaha 57mm rings. Then, pistons can be made with a phone call or e-mail.

I have tried several ring companies, but nobody wants orders in the teens, twenties or even fifties. They want to hear numbers like thousands or tens of thousands

Michael, vielen dank for your findings.

Mike, hope you recover soon from your neck surgery (and better than from the previous one).
Now we just have to find out if these rings are up to the task.

Anyway, finally got a set of original NOS Yamaha rings a couple of months ago, but it was quite a struggle. Just wanted to make sure there will be some source for them in the future. Now I just need to find time and money to build a 428 engine.

Yakama, good find!

Michael, thanks for the calls to them.

Mike, sorry to hear these unfortunate developments for you. I hope things turn around for you - both health & work / financial - wise. I've found that things always seem to work out for the best in the end. I just hope that this is soon for you.

So, anybody able to verify the quality / suitability of these rings by Scheuerlein?
Anybody ordered from them as yet?
As Mike said OEM or better quality?

The price is very high. But, when there are no other rings in stock in the world, the price all of a sudden seems reasonable. By the way, is a set per piston, or per engine (4 cylinders)?

What kind of discount would they give to Motorcycle Shops? How about quantity discounts? I need enough for 8 engines/rebuilds (32 ring packs). Maybe we get a group buy and order 10 to 15 sets (40 to 60 ping packs)?

If these rings are any good, it could completely change the status of piston availability from "NONE" to "ON ORDER" for me. I would like to get 1 set immediately to make this determination. Please let me know what I need to do. Wire/PayPal you money?

The neck has healed, better than before. This last surgery was actually my lower back :o But thanks. Healing is going very slow, this was a very intense surgery.

As you see above, I will get a set of these rings and make the comparisons necessary to see of they are any good. As the former Quality Assurance Manager at Honda.....I hope I can figure it out ;)

Ya know, Madrid would be a great place to visit. Let me know when you're ready for assembly. I just might have to make a "business trip" to help out.

Mike,

do you want to test the rings from Germany? I can help to order a set.
The price, 199 € is for a complete engine, 4 cylinder.
I can ask for 10-15 sets what we have to pay. Price is with tax.
