Really interesting to read about the HRC linkage, your spending my money for me mate! :p

What's your thoughts on the RVF linkage? Obviously not a shade on the HRC one but I've picked one up cheap and wasn't sure how much of an improvement it would make other than the ride height being raised.

If you go by the threoy behind why the hrc link works so well then the rvf linkage with it being shorter actually makes things worse as the shorter link will increase the rate at which the shock rises, all your gaining is ride height.

Ah right maybe need to test both the 30 and 35 linkages on a trackday to see which suits my riding style and the Nitron shock best.

If you have a nitron for a NC30 then fitting a NC35 link will cause the shock to interfere with the swingarm.

Cheers for that mate I didn't realise, glad I didn't waste a load of time trying to fit it!

I believe Mr Munky above is correct on both counts - the shorter pull arm gives you ride height but actually makes the rear end more progressive, not less progressive. ... but I am not an expert.

And yes, using a RVF pull arm with the Nitron is likely to foul on the swing arm. I had a Nitron at 315mm and with either an RVF pull arm or a hole-welded-up-and-moved-closer jobby they both fouled. I have a pic somewhere ....

Munky: re your 500 spring. Stands to reason, at 75kgs fitted a 500 spring is kinda of in the 'normal' zone I guess - it aint a 800-900 or so such as would ship with the (say) Nitron for the OEM linkage.

The 2006 CBR1000 spring is circa 650 (or '11.5'), but I am about 85k kitted up and it is for racing, so should be ballpark okay. I hope!

to the same conclusions that you have although I have gone for a softer spring. I did try a 600lbs spring first and found it miles to hard, im now running a 500lbs spring which I feel is perfect but I am only around 75kg kitted up.
Which shock did you use? 500lbs is around the stock spring rate for the s1000rr shock, I might pop the old spring back in.

I've been called many things, but tonight you can call me unlucky.

I got my carbs sonically cleaned and they've now siezed - corroded inside in places I think and the jets also just plain siezed in - no change of getting those soft brass things out without destroying them. I've got pics of that but it's too depressing ... so I'll do them later.

So, a replacement set arrived today and I set about attempting to strip them straight away.

Hmmm .. this doesn't bode well ...

Yikes .. neither does this ...

And after much screwing about trying to get a float bowl off ... I get this. Geeez:

Image

Yuck. And the next one looks like this. F*ck.

Image

.. and the next like this ...

Image

... and the last was also a disaster. Here is the happy family:

I have them soaking in petrol at the moment but I doubt I will be able to salvage any of those at all.

I'll be asking for my money back tomorrow ...

sigh ... into bed.
