I find the subject of development interesting. Using modern technology which wasn't around at the time to improve on the existing design.
Although EFI may not give you more outright power than a well set up carbed bike, carbs are always going to be a compromise, where as EFI is the best of both and can automatically adapt to different climates and altitudes, where as with carbs, you have to pull them apart and put new jets/needles in.
I have conducted literally 1000's of dyno runs in my time (engine dyno) so know that the process of mapping with reasonably intelligent software is fairly straight forward, but it does take a lot of time, hence money.
The other tricky part is manufacturing all the bits, acquiring the correct sensors and ensuring that they are fitted in the optimum position to get the best reading.

Yes its true, but many people dont think fully. Or have unrealistic expectation.

Often but by no means always its young people, not much experience with tuning and see some "performance parts" and install to find only slight differences.

Usuaully its cosemetic, like fairings and lights and things that are done.

Most of the real development / big changes are done by people that know what they are doing.

Then they usually keep the bike or sell it hah, for those that sell it not from being disappointed its due to having finished the project, the bike is more of a thing to work on than to ride.

I did that before. Rebuilt an XBR500, spent a lot of time getting it back to factory spec, had everything painted with many coats of paint and laqcer, repainted all the engine and re-plated bolts, once it was looking good I sold it for a big loss.

I liked the bike too, just not enough to keep it I guess.

I was thinking of doing this, too, just to prove that I can. It would be a trial run for the real deal, which is an airplane engine... :P

(The only problem is that you need a dyno, unlike for an airplane. You don't even need an airplane...)
