Spluttering and coughing

I was out on her before and well she was running brilliant until ahhhhh she started spluttering and when i got her home oil every where it was like duh duh duuuhhh so i looked to seek the source
It was to my amazment coming from the air box hmmmm after another strip down it became apparent that it was coming up the overflow pipe and into the airbox as there was a deep puddle of oil in the airbox
This lead me to belive that some a**s h**e had put too much oil in (2.7 Ltrs too much to be exact) so cleaned all the oil up drained about 2.7Ltrs out and shes running a little crappy think ill giv her a good blast see if that fix's it

Not a bad day either - you found out what was wrong and put it right.

The 2300 stamped into the clutch cover by the oil filler cap is a hint
I'd say they probably filled it on the side stand not with the bike upright

Oh im not sure what planet they was on let alone how they done it i mean comon who fills the oil up 2.7 Ltrs over lol

Fuck - I read it as 2.7 total !!!

They must have just put 5.0 litres in, I'm surprised it ran at all

Lol crazy that isnt it some one was try to drown my 400 its ran like a bag of shit now im wondering the best way to get the oil out wherher ill have to get the carbs cleaned, giv it a good blast down a long road or if theres something like redex

Clean the carbs yourself it isn't difficult.
Get a big sheet of white paper to work on, take the carbs off (then undo the throttle cables) and take the float bowl and top off. Then clean them with a (cheap) toothbrush. To undo the machine screws use a small rathcet with a driver bits, use the right size bit push down on the screw fairly hard and then start to undo them.
Use some carb or brake cleaner spray and squirt it into all the little holes.
Clean the outside with some of that old petrol you got from the tank

When you put them back on put the front wheel against a wall and the bike in gear. You have to attach the throttle cables first it takes some jiggling and swearing but equally sometimes they pop on. Then you do them up (you'll enjoy this bit).

I know a fella who has said he will balance and clean the carbs for £40

Take it ... it's a good price and you'll need to have them balanced anyway.

But on the other hand it's good to see what happens and you'll bond with your bike a bit more if you do it yourself. maybe ask if you can watch
