Haven't checked that linkage thing yet but will do it tomorrow when I clean the bike.
But today it did not Grundy thing again, a couple f minutes into my journey accelerating off a roundabout into a 70 and went to change to second it hit neutral and just kept making a grinding noise whenever I tried to change up. Eventually it went in

Is your clutch cable set right?

Crunching is a sign of clutch not engaged properly.

Drop off the revs and loose the clutch out and try again to engage 2nd, dont keep crunching it in, will ruin the gear.

If the gear lever is set too low it can rest on your foot. So when you click up a gear it will not let the lever drop down fully, this means it has not fully selected and can jump out of gear or not want to go into the next gear.
Check you have enough space under the lever for you foot.

I run race pattern anyways, so it always goes in...stamp on the little bugger!

I'll check that too (Alex set it up and it doesn't happen very often) and when it happens I go totally off the throttle and pull the clutch in you say let the clutch out then pull it back in?

Just realised my chain is way too slack, I don't think I have the tools to change it, my sprocket is actually way past the green on the wear indicator (to the left) when on its side stand so its probably this causing the problem

Tightened the chain, all seems much better now, especially first to second
