Friday afternoon sourced some consumables for the work ahead ,£30 for a gallon of degreaser and a tub of copperslip=shocking !

Sat morning;first job was sort out newly arrived spares and assemble yet another cheap paddock stand.




Harris oval can and linkpipe compared to existing exhaust



Weighs about a 1/4 of the exup one.
Inlet was slightly out of round but tidied up ok with the mandrel.



On to the hanger; this was mounted in the incorrect position which prevents the original coolant reservoir being utilised.




Hanger re-positioned and reservoir fitted;spot the problem ?



The can strap is now completely in the wrong position.
The original 2TK can is supported here but with the YZF engine and pipe ,using the original hanger is a no go;it is too bulky
Projection components replacement hanger will cure this.
Can,strap and seat unit mock up.


Modified exhaust support repositioned.



Stripped,degreased and powerwashed.



Chain had flailed off/snapped at some point, although casing is usable I have a spare 1000 unit to go on.




New pushrod and seal had been fitted by a P.O.



On Sunday,Freefall Phil called in for a chat and very kindly donated a Genesis battery box and rear tank locating bracket which moved the project forward massively .
The undertray and rear mudguard and hence most of the electrics are dependant on this being fitted first.
Wiring harness is 9/10th Yzf as suspected
New fuel pump position;no space for a fabricated bracket but rubber casing gives ample support.



Top yoke tidied up and tank strap fitted along with an ignition decal from the stickers box.



Missing tank ring screws fitted,cannot believe I had these lying about, I think they were incorrectly fitted to a brake reservoir cap on a 3en2 previously !



Coolant pipework tidied up somewhat.



I am not happy with this setup at all, but there does not seem to be a better alternative.

Have decided tank and seat unit paintwork is near enough for what this bike is.





Was going to repaint but I don't think bike warrants the expense.

Replacement calipers and hoses ;overhauled and ready to fit.



Next weekend ; front forks overhaul and swinging arm strip.

Cleaning it seems to have made a world of difference - that must be good degreesant

Maybe put the rear suspension remote on the other side so the can's mounting bracket has a clearer route. Weren't they on the left originally ?

Good thinking on the remote re-position Boris.
The original fixing point is as shown (rhs).
The problem is the coolant reservoir;it entwines with the subframe and the rail the shock remote is fixed to ,but you have certainly given me ideas.
Yes,its cleaning up quite well.
The hot water feed to the powerwasher helps massively when getting rid of 26 years of road filth.

Yes Phil,once the battery box was fitted,the rest just fell into place.
Once again .thanks for the help with the parts.

Forgot to mention, carbs were overhauled on Saturday and judging by the muck in the bowls,the massive fuel filter had been used for a reason.
Tank was clean inside after a rinse.( P.O had done similar.)
Needles somewhat worn and could do with replacement (NLA)
Air filter was new, as was coolant.
Fresh oil and cheap filter to be used for first 100/150 miles when built up,then a proper service after shakedown to be done.

We don't have any plans for it yet, I'm umming and ahhing over whether to stick a 600 in it or not. There are some really nicely thought out bits on them aren't there? The tank was surprisingly clean inside too, which was nice.

I have yet to see one.
On Mark's I fabricated a captive nut but it is not optimal.

There is a bracket that does that job but it looks far from standard They must all get damaged or lost, like the rear centre panels for 3EN2s
