The guys have removed the epoxy (which apparently came off in one piece). No crack could be seen under the epoxy. According to the dealer the oil is actually leaking from the cam \ rocker cover area.
Has anybody heard of this before?
I know everybody is saying walk away, but I guess I am giving the dealer the benefit of the doubt (maybe I am being naive) they seem honest and are trying to help.
Of course the decision is yours and I don't know the dealer at all but I don't think anyone on here that has offered you advice is in a position to make or loose money from it, unlike the dealer.
Read the posts properly too, the post DIRECTLY above yours mentions an answer to your question.

Ive never had an NC13E engine just leak oil from a failed gasket before. I've had rockerboxes leak when ive reused the old gakset and it hasnt seated right but never had one just start leaking oil before.

Thanks guys, I am taking all of this on board, trust me I am. Gone quiet with the dealer today (the bike is still up noorf and I am in London). I will phone them tomorrow and get an update on what they found. Like I said I have asked for photos of the areas that need work and I am seriously weighing up my options.
NGneer - I have indeed fallen in love with the bike, I know there are more out there and that this bike has some "issues"
Neosophist - intersting info on the potential leak from the rockerbox, lets see what they say tomorrow.
What a mare, could do without all of this.
So great to be getting help and advice on this.
With regards to the warranty advice - i agree, and if they believe their repairs are decent then in turn they should be able to back up the work with a solid guarantee (12 months).

OK, so I know you guys think I am totally bonkers, but I have hung in there and given the dealer the benefit of the doubt (that's just the way I roll).
Anyway it turns out that it was the cam gasket that had been "pinched" by a previous "mechanic" which compromised the seal and hence the leak appeared when the engine was up to full heat, oil became viscous and pressured etc etc. The epoxy bodge was not even on the right area of the engine and hence a red herring, again monkey mechanic bodge job.
The bike is on its way back to me on thursday after gasket seal has been tested so I am hoping for happy result.

Hi guys,
Just an update on this whole debacle, I have finally got a refund from the dealer - phew.
Looks like the bike was sold to me with a cracked crank case.
So glad its over.

Adamski - Not surprised to hear there was something nasty lurking (if it smells like a pig, grunts like a pig and looks like a pig etc etc), but glad to hear you got a refund.
Hope it doesn't put you of the 400's - just try to find a gud 'un this time

A happy ending and a good lesson, if you ask for advice, take it! Lots of people said just walk away, fair play you gave the dealer a chance but sounded like they just wanted your money. You can find a decent one now!
