Here's a bit of a subjective question but should I get a complete set of original jap RT fairings for a rainy day. I'm thinking of splurging 3000aud on a near complete set of brand new fairings for a rainy day...knowing they will all be discontinued one day and not able to get anymore. Talk me into it....or talk me out of it.

OEM panels are discontinued and already commanding high prices if you can find them, i'll be surprised if you find a full matching set of new OEM panels.

the ones from davidsilverspares and cmsnl are original oem's, right? i thought they are still making RVF panels or at least they were stilll being made and have stock available for them.

yeah good luck, lowers still available, nose cone long gone, seat unit panels, i think just the left side available to order. not sure about mid panels. i know 18 months ago one side was NLA

I recently bought an almost complete set of RR panels with the exception of the nosecone and the front tank cover.

David Silver can still get the nose cones, it just takes them about 3 to 4 months to source them and deliver them. Seriously thinking of ordering one or at the very least getting the one I have repaired and repainted.

Ordered these in about March last year and had them delivered about June/July time.

It depends if you want a 'mint' bike or not. Your new panels will be mint but will the rest of the bike be of the same standard? That's where the value is, not really whether a used bike has new panels. A lot more will probably need replacing with new parts if you're looking for a collectible bike in the future - I haven't seen your bike to comment, just a general observation.

If it were my money I'd try and source a complete set of original panels in excellent condition (and pay a lot less than $3k!). They're around in Australia if you look and are prepared to wait for a good set. I reckon Sumoto in Melbourne would be a good place to start, they seem to convert a lot of rvf's to full tyga'd bikes. HTH

I've tried Sumoto and IMI, Sumoto fed me a line of BS that they don't have any spare panels...that they all come in the country in Tyga fairings for the ones that are Tyga'd out. I'd rather have a mint spare set and not need it then need it and not be able to get them anymore. The bike I have is A1 underneath the panels. Most issues with the panels are small stress cracks and a bit of fading from old age. Otherwise, no major or minor cracks or scratches, it's a beautiful example just showing her age. I"m just afraid mint panels won't be available from places like DSS and CMSNL in the near future.
