HEL Rear Brake Line - Too Long?

i just used the ones that come off the old line mate, thats why i have more.

i put the line on first then thought the same, so got my old gromets, sliced them down the middle and popped them over the line and moved them to where the chain guard clips where and pinched them down.....job jobbed.

plus there should be a metal retainer clip on the rear swingarm pinch bolt....to hold it away from the wheel, i dont have one either but might put something on for good measure.

The chain will not run in correct alignment, so more wear and friction.
It will not be much as the chain is wider than the sprockets so can move to try to take up its proper run.
You may see a shiny wear line on the outer face of the teeth.

It is simple to reverse.

I knew I shoud have kept the old ones! It certainly looks better than having the line loose in the clip, I have the retainer clip on the pinch bolt though.

I've just come up against the same problem. See photo.

The HEL line measured 1m 22cm and the original 1m 10cm. As you can see it's nearly touching the wheel.
Obviously in the photo i have none of the other parts fitted, IE chain guard etc, but did have them on for dummy run of brake line. so everything was as it would be once the bike is finished.

I basically contacted the guys at HEL to let them know, sent it back to them and received it back the following day, cut to the correct length. They were really helpful.

Another sprocket fitted back to front, shiny tooth faces indicate misalignmemt.

would it make a differance though?? as wont it just wear on the other side instead!?

by having the sprocket on that way it makes it slightly off set , having the lip/groove on the inside will fix that basically the centre of the sproket is milled out causing the lip around the edge, it brings the sprocket a fraction closer to the wheel

ahh reet, i got the bloody chain on now and the pinch bolt at the back was threaded , so a longer bolt was used and pinched tight, i dont fancy undoing it tbh.

long as im not gunna die or anything ill leave it.

HEL are notorious for length errors

I had them redo a rear line four times (yes, four) before giving up and sending the actual rear to them so they could copy it. If it wasn't a length error it was a connector shape or angle error, or all three. Took about 3 months all up. Sort of dissapointing really ...

Lesson? don't assume just because it has you bike model on the box that it is correct. If you are unsure, get onto them.
