Re: Gel battery
If it's just commuting that's the worry, can't you pick up a cheap 250 crosser or an old GPZ/ZZR? Something you wouldn't mind just chucking a disc lock on and bollocks to it if it got nicked. At least that way, you keep the NC for pleasure and it's less likely to come a cropper. Commuting is the worst thing for your pride and joy.
Anyway, you should be fine just plugging into a trickle charger once a week. When I'm using my bike all week, I tend to stick it on the charger Friday night till Sunday night/Monday morning. Standard lead acid battery. I don't really need to do it as I've not got an alarm fitted but with the cold weather, it helps having the battery tip top for cold mornings.

Conventional wisdom says to know your limits. To know your limits you need to find them first. Finding your limits generally involves getting in over your head and hoping you live long enough to benefit from the experience. That's the fun part.

Re: Gel battery
Hmm, got a Ybr 125 in my garage already which I'm selling because my insurance ran out a week ago and I've got my mod2 a week today. Plus I don't really have space for two bikes or the funds to insure two bikes.
Think I'll give the lead acid battery another go (a new one obviously) and see how it goes. I could always cycle to work too. Cheers for the advice etc
