Very good thread.
Did you degrease then pressure wash? Does it blast away all the crud?

I've actually enjoyed doing the strip down and now the rebuilding, with a good clean, is quite satisfying. Luckily I've got a bike I can ride and a car when needed while doing this rebuild so I'm in no rush. Rather then just getting it together I can spend some time doing it properly (hopefully). I like to try and keep things clean and in good working order. Unfortunately 90% of the stuff I'm doing won't be seen, but I'll know it's done.
Shows how anal I am, do you know what bugs me most about this photo?
It's not the fact it's dirty, but that the fins on the oil filter housing don't go straight up

I degreased with a soft brush then pressure washed the frame. Then degreased again with the use of the brush, my finger, and a toothbrush (I needed another one anyway

) Then one final clean and a quick rub down. I'll probably give it a bit of a polish before I'm finished. Also add a bit more grease to the bearings. I'm very happy with the way it's cleaned up, for a 25 year old bike (even though it's fairly low miles.)

i'm with you there,
does my head in when something could be lined up, but peeps can't be bothered
i'm probably a bit ocd, but a proper job is a proper job and won't need doing twice

I finally got some time to continue with the YB7.
With the help of a friend I lifted the engine onto a trolley and took it outside for a clean,
I also gave the inlet tubes a bit of a clean too.
Lifted the engine back in and fastened the front braces. The barrels and head are not as clean as I'd like but I'll give it another go soon.
Cleaned up quite nice.
Radiator and hoses back on. I'll get it off again some time for a refurb and paint.
More new original gaskets,
Fluids going in. Some new anti freeze and oil. Exhaust also back on.
Fuel tank connected. Then it was time to push the button......
The battery was flatter then a squirrel after an incident with an 18 wheeler. It did turn over but very slowly, at least it'll of got some oil around the engine. I took my optimiser down and left it charging.

Well, the truthful answer is NO.....
It's actually got the same problem it had when it came off the road. When I push the starter it turns over but won't fire. If I then while holding the starter, put my hand over the carb inlets one at a time (to block them off), it will fire up and run for 5/10 secs before stopping.
The reason I found the valve stem seal problem was due to taking the carbs off to fix this problem in the first place. I didn't clean the carbs when I put them on, just to see if it would run properly.
Last night I took the carbs off and gave the jets a blow through with the airline. This didn't fix the problem. Tonight I plan on giving the carb bodies, etc a proper clean and see if that cures it. I suspect this is the problem.
If not the carbs are coming off the FZR to see if they will cure it. But not until after tomorrow because it's going for an MOT in the morning.

Cheers but yeah she's got new plugs, oil, antifreeze, filters, gaskets, etc
I've got iridium plugs in at present but might get another new set of 'standard' plugs to see if that helps.
One of the reasons the carbs weren't serviced is that I'm having trouble locating a rebuild kit.
I checked the float heights last night and they're OK aswell.

It sounds more like the idle jets but because it affects all the carbs it could be they're the wrong size .... or maybe the choke isn't working
