Even with the rick Oliver kit?
I hope not or I'm stuffed
Surely its easier and makes more sense to just go for the 520 chain?

Not when you have a brand new 525 renthal sprockets and chain.

it's got nothing to do with the pitch (525/520).
the pitch is the distance between the pins.
what makes the difference is o-rings.
the rubber o-rings sit between the inner and outer plates on each side of the chain,
they are approx 1.5/2mm and with one on either side of each pin.
that's approx 3/4mm wider than a non o-ring chain of the same pitch.
so if you have a 520 o-ring chain at 25mm wide, then a 520 non o-ring chain would be 21mm wide.
besides all that o-rings sap power and are irrelivent if you look after your chain properly.

might i also add that when i bought my bike it had a 180 supercorsa and 180 diablo rain,
i ran both tyres with a non o-ring chain and had no rubbing (standard rear wheel and no spaceing kit either).
i bought a new chain (o-ring) and that was the first time a chain came into contact with the tyre.
ps. i could not afford tyres for my first season and had to use what came with the bike.
i now run 160's on the rear

True but a 520 has to be marginally narrower as a 525 o ring touches and a 520 o ring doesn't, and that's on the same bike/tyres etc

No just ditched the shagged 525 for 520 renthals so that's probably why.
