Regarding the leaking, have you got the packing gaskets inside the front pipes? (Part #11 in the below link).

They might not fit your aftermarket exhaust system but worth checking that they're there and haven't deteriorated as this is really what seals the front to rear pipes.

The front pipes are a low grade of stainless, no idea what material.

Thanks, so are you saying I have an aftermarket exhaust system? Looking at the parts list picture I would agree, maybe I should just try and separate at the join and see whats inside. Unfortunately I would still need to the exact grade ie. 304 or 316.... in order to buy the correct filler rods to weld but seeing as its a join I might only weld the hairline crack near the muffler, can't remember exactly where it is since I haven't run the bike in some time.

What are you planning on welding it with.. ?

It's most likeley going to be 304 grade, i can't see why using a 308 filler to do the job will present any problems, they exhaust don't come under a lot of physical stress once it's mounted

That's an aftermarket system - it uses springs to hold it together. Looks like an ethos brand but hard to tell from that pic.

Did yours have the springs fitted? On sprung systems the tension holds each section together to seal the joins.

Yep you don't need gaskets.

If welding 304 to 304 use a 308 filler rod.

Cool, yes there are springs but still there is a leak. Would I maybe just need new springs? Is there any way to identify the type of system it is? I plan on taking that rear section off so will post a picture.

308 filler it is.

Split it into sections and try reseating it all, like Mark has suggested, this can often seal a leaking joint.

If you are really struggling, what i've done in the past is use some silicon.. the type you need a matick gun for, i.e. bathroom silicon, I prefer clear but any color will do.

Apply a ring around the end of the smaller pipe so when you connect it together it will fill any gaps and set, this will form a flexible joint thats quite heat proof.
