We can't find or get hold of a 2k ohm resistor ??? :S :x or is has my dad not looked hard enough :sshh: ?

can i find one iny any standard appliances ? like a Cd player system etc ? or anything else ?

when me and my grandad were wiring up the Koso CLocks, we discarded this wire and unit, that plugge din somewhere at the front of my bike, ill upload some picture of it, could you tell me what it is ? and is this my old resistor ?

thats the speedo unit, it needs to be connected or you need to use the resistor.

goto your nearest maplins... if there isnt one you can order online. a 2k appox.. 2.2k is good metal film resistor.. doesnt need to be a high wattage.. there about 4p

so if I reconnect this it should rev fine? and would I still need the 2k resistor mod? thanks for your help Adam

As Neosophist said, PLUG THE SENSOR BACK IN OR GET A RESISTOR.

hi so does this do the same job as the resistor ?

what would be best to do ?

can the resistor Mod harm your bike ?

The resistor mod should help in getting rid of your flat spot and shouldn't harm your bike at all.

Use either not both.

When the speedo board is connected it places an electrical load on the circuit, so the ignition box can sense that it is connected, this is the only check the ignition box does.

There are 3 wires, one of them is the 'trigger' when the trigger is activated by the speedo board (which won't happen if you just connect the board without the clock) then the ignition box cuts the revs at 180km/h.

The resistor you can use instead of the board just places a similar electrical load on the ignition box to what the original speedo board did, fooling the ignition box into beliveing the board is still connected.

As far as I know the pipe from the top of the petrol tank is just a pipe that leads to below the bike and ends up sitting freely in the belly pan. When fuel is taken from the tank, it obviously needs to be replaced with air otherwise it'd create a vacuum and petrol wouldn't flow, so the pipe is just to allow air in to the tank I believe. I don't have a filter on mine, just a pipe from the cap to below the bike.

Looking forward to seeing some finished photos of this :)

Finally managed to sort out the actual MPH problem, * i thought the Circumference of my wheel/tyre was 17" :S which gave me 400 and odd mm, when my dad explained they are not the same, as the 17" is just the height etc so we measured how far my bike would travel after 1 revolution of the tyre and its 1800mm, so i entered this into my Clocks with the correct amount of magnets (6) and it all seems to be calibated correctly,

*Still got the limp home mode Problem which ill hopefully sort out tomorrow when i see my grandad,

my Revs are still out, surely my settings should be 4C (4 stroke/cylinders) and 4P which is for amount if Pistons ?

now i have read this from the Digital-speedos.co.uk website

"Setting Two The number of pistons.
Before we attempt this procedure,
Please see the examples below which might help you understand the set up procedure
Coil Connection this is just an example if in doubt try other settings
Engine has 6 pistons and 3 coils set the number of pistons to two
Engine has 4 pistons and 2 coils set the number of pistons to two
Engine has 4 pistons 4 coils set the number of pistons to one
Engine has 2 pistons 2 coils set the number of pistons to one
Engine has 2 pistons one coil set the number of pistons to two"

this is the confusing part, does the Vfr400 have 2 coils or 4 ? if 4 the website is saying set pistons too 1 etc ?
this is all strange, but i hope you can work this out and help me out,

the next setting is:
Setting Three The Hi Lo setting
If you connect to the negative side of the coil set it to LO
If you connect it to the positive side of the coil set it to HI

my grandad didnt manage to set it up to a coil and went to the rear of the bike CDI unit so i dont know if it sould be hi or lo ?
