More of a coffe table picture book than a deap read, and a rare look at some of the technology behind the 1000cc bikes. Not sure if the 2nd edition covers 800cc bikes.

also if you have any interest with ducati's then any of the ian falloon books are a fountain of knowledge, esp the only cunningly titled "the ducati 916" and "ducati desmoquattro superbikes"
covered the earlier 851 and 888 series and some of the 749 and 999 models too, however pretty well anything with a 4v head. after reading that you will be able to spot a real 916sp over a wanna be or a 748r and know exactly what year it was made regardless of the plate it wears at 50 yards and a glance.
ok sounds a bit trainspotter ish, however if you are interested in racing and the mechanical and design side, then this book is facinating. also gives excellent details of the mythical desmo system and explains it in great detail and why it works so well.

I have not heard his comentating but his book on V4 Hondas is very good although the 400 versions hardly get a look in
