Glad to see your still developing, I honestly thought it had finished as I hadn’t heard anything for ages!
I’ve been sat here reading your updates, excited and even showing the wife, she thinks I’m bloody daft.
I’m gobsmacked by what you have achieved over the years; it’s inspirational that someone’s still got the balls to develop the complex little beastie.
What’s the main reason for continuing with the carb option??? the reason I ask is now you have the cooling stabilised is the next progression the fuel injected route, with the parameters you plan to monitor you’ll be able to get a great burn, and control the rear cylinders/ burn more easily, and while on the subject any ideas for ram air system.
I would be interested in a set of the cossie pistons.
Please come up with an engine package as suggested by Drunkn Munky

Why the carbs route? We have this debate every week. Mainly because we spent thousands of dollars on them and they definitely show an improvement. The hardest part is tuning the dead-spot below 8,500rpm. This is a result of the difference in slide opening vs. pressure drop at the emulsion tube opening (fuel nozzle into the venturi). I am hoping to work on that in two weeks. So, we want to work on them and get them dialed in as best as possible.

The other reason is, so far, fuel injection is REALLY EXPENSIVE! We spent over $6,500 on what we have so far, but the software is so complex that we now need to pay several thousand more to hire an engineer ot help us set it up. That's just not something that we're ready to spend, so it sits.....and sits....and sits. Seriously, it's just getting the software figured out that is preventing us from firing the Fuely bike up. Sad, huh?

We have some other friends that are looking into getting an "economical" Fuel Injection system going. They estimate about $3,000 for a system. They say that will come complete with ready to go software programming. I am holding my breathe, anxious to see how it goes. It may be well worth it.

Engine kits: I basically have an "Engine Kit". I have all along. But, everytime people contact me about it, and I price it out, I cause serious heart attacks and not many people are really ready to step-up. The "kits" are simple:

1). 57mm Cosworth Pisitons (you guys have missed 2 orders you could have gotten in on. I doubt there will be more).
2). Head porting. Just let me know when you want me to do it, and send the heads over.
3). Adjustable Cam Adaptors (you missed 2 orders for those too).
4). Carrillo Rods. Those are available anytime, but take about 8 weeks to make.
The estimated prices (although I haven't updated those pages in a while, so it may be higher) are up on the website.

Everything else is pretty much something anyone can do, as long as you follow my "recipie". All stock parts.

What I am thinking of doing is making a "Step-by-Step" section of the website on how to build each version of our engines. These will include a TON of details that I normally wouldn't share, so if I do this, it will be a "pay" section of the website. How do you guys feel about that?

Yes, we still are "trying" to use the Pectel (Pi/Cosworth) system. Working with Apex has not gotten us very far, so we are looking for other people that are familiar with the Pectel system that can help. It's extremely frustrating for someone like me. I can figure out just about anything, but the software was not well done, so I just stare at the screen and want to scream.

I'm not familiar with the Pectel software, can't really comment on it. I know that the hardware is first rate though. Another very nice system is by EFI Technology, their software is very well done and intuitive. I know you're up in the Bay area, but it may be worth it to give these guys a call http://racesolutions.com/ down in orange county.

They have tons of experience with EFI technology, and I believe they're a dealer for the Pectel stuff now. Even though they mainly deal with 4 wheels, the owner Kris has experience tuning Hayabusa's and Hayabusa powered cars amongst other bikes. He knows Neel V. of apex speed pretty well too.

Heh heh. You must not have seen my updates to my webiste. I now work for Kawasaki USA. I live in Orange county :-) Where are you located?

First: i want to know what kind of front wheel do you use with the ohlins for?
The same size as vfr/rvf 400 or cbr 1000 size?
Why do you want to use a 310mm or 320mm front disc? In my opinion we have a very light bike and a 296mm is enough.

Second: Why would you not use a motec ecu? The software is very good. Here you can see my first day on a dyno with the fuelinjection after one hour.

I think for an hour on a dyno, it is good.

Your new website is very good and your work is very impressive. I have to collect some money for the rest of the engine, but first i want to ride the bike in Most racetrack in CZ. Next winter

Hey Mike,

I do remember you telling me in an email that you work for Kawasaki now, and that you're living in Orange County. I guess NC's = Bay area in my mind, my brain might need some tuning as well!

Kris is a really cool guy, and loves an interesting project. I know they're in the process of moving into a larger building in La Habra, so they may not answer the phone right away. Email might be your best bet right now.

Hi Michael:

The wheel is for a CBR1000RR to fit everything else on the front end.
We currently use the 310mm rotors and Mark still feels he could use a little extra braking. He can go pretty deep on the brakes. It seems over-kill. It might be over-kill for most people, but.....it's what he wants. Besides, it LOOKS COOL!!!'
I was originally going to go with Motec. But, the Fuel Injection guy I was working with said the Pectel was a better system with more ajustability and configurability. It also had more channels for data acquisition. But, what he didn't tell us is it was so complex and needed to pay him thousands to set it up. Now, we wish we had gone with something different, but we're fully invested in it. So, we can't turn back now. If I had it to do again, I would look deeper into sometghing else.

Why such a flat spot on your dyno curve?

Have you been able to send those carb boots ofr the FCRs? We're just waiting for those to measure so we can make new ones to get our flatslides working better. We're stuck without them.
