SH/zimm your right there is other parts additional to the engine
carbs
loom
cdi
exhaust
i bought all the above including frame from different sellers on ebay for around £200 the lot
so its going to be cheap to build.
I have lots fo spares from my racebike like forks/wheels/shock ect so its not to big a task sorting parts.
The main reason im doing this is to build a nc23 with 80 plus bhp which you cant do with the 400 motor as we all know.
I was originaly going to build a 2nd 400 but when i found these early 600 parts were so cheap i thought what the hell lets have a laugh with this .
The engine/frame is going away next weekend for welding ect and will update when its back.
In the mean time see if this wets your appetite.
Its my 400 build .

drew70 wrote:The bike you seen on ebay had the front legs cut along the frame spar,It makes it a neater job but a lot more work. As ive said before i went for the easy option. Mine is going to be a track thrash tool so im not being too anal about it looking as honda intended. I will be fitting cbr600rr bodywork the same as my 400 racebike which will sort out the width problem.
Back to the frame there is no way the front legs will fit over the engine unless you buff/grind a lot of material from the inside of the front legs, but even if you do this it will only be the crank case bolts that will line up, the cyl head bolts are out a fair bit. Unless you dont want to use them .
So in theory if you grind a lot off the frame and only use the front bottom crankcase fixings( and both rear also ) there is no need to cut and weld the frame .
Theres no real way around cutting the frame if you want to do this mod properly and safely, grinding metal out of the frame to fit a bigger heavier engine and not using all the engine mounts just wouldnt be a safe solution in my opinion.

I can see your concerns tho squirrel_hunter  i wouldnt want to cut my frame either but with this mod there really isnt much choice! its not a simple case of swapping engines unfortunantly.

Ps: Drew70: very interesting read on your NC23 build! i went back and read the whole thread awhile ago, very nice work!
