DM,
Can you use the lower mounting points on the engine?
If you can, it would probably be safe enough to have some threadded bar from one side of the engine through the mounts and to the other side, so both mounts are connected, and the threadded rod is the mounting bolt, this will help to stop any torque on the mnountings and help spread the load. Worth a go before you start drilling and tapping the heads.

Hi Jeff, yes i can use the lower mounts however ive drilled and tapped the head now so i can now use both mounts. I only had to drill a further few mm, just need to clean up the snapped off mounts to use as spacers. I'll be using a non drill R&G kit so that basically connects the lower mounts, im confident it'll work. You can all feel free to piss yourselfs laughing when it falls out the bike in spain

before

drilled

tapped

helicoils
I drilled the thread out on the original mounts and just used them as spacers, i'll get some pics of how it looks with the R&G kit bolted on as it kinda connects all the mounts together which should help strengh wise.

how di i get the pulse generator (starter clutch) off while the motor is on the bench?
also found that there is no generator/flywheel assy in the motor - i think thats as good as any reason
to fit a rick oliver gsxr kit in there

Well it would be silly not to fit the RO kit
I jammed a rachet strap in the gears to get the starter clutch off

ooooohhhhh

, i had trouble with this on my 30 engine, i had to strap it to my work bench with propper heavy duty ratchet straps to stop it twisting it was a real ball ache. if you can get it back in the frame temporarily to do it, it will save you loads of hassel and time.
Yer do the gixer conversion you know it makes sense
