My 35 engine had a fairly slack pump chain and also my UK30 engine, i dont think thats an issue; unless i have had 2 dud engines

I don't think there supposed to be tight.. as long as it won't come off the sprocket it should be fine.. every engine i've seen has been like this.. dont' forget, when its going around it'll have more tension on it too.

Also the chain is constantly lubricated where it is, so it eliminates premature failure
