Had this happen to me about 6 months after I got my bike, over 5 years ago now. I bought a new generator, regulator and battery and just replaced it all in one go.

I think I wired my generator directly into the connector plug that plugs into the regulator itself, hence doing away with the plug on the RHS of the bike. Have never had any problems since and all wiring is still spot on. Battery went about 2 months ago, bought a new one and back to normal. Think the battery served me for about 6 years though.

Good luck with the repair, once you have replaced these parts and wired them all in nicely you shouldn't have any problems for a while.

If you can it would be best. At least you know that everything in the charging system is spot on and brand new then. Problem is if you replace one thing, like the generator, then in a few weeks the reg could go which will pop your battery and you'll think "i wish I had done that all in one go when I had the bike apart".

But that's just my thinking anyway and my opinion not gospel.
