couple of grand to make it nice ? i think more like 5+ minimum, carbon covers on the frame - hmmm call me sceptical but i bet there is a dent behind that.

Aye, appen, but depends what you call nice. Just a cosmetic tidy-up would make it nice for me. To get it like it should be I think you're right at over 5K. Like I say though, spreading the cost by doing it bit a time would make it more achievable for most folk I would think. It's be satisfying to bring it back mint too.

Problem is the parts that are knackered are either horrendously expensive or no longer available. i personally dont think its worth the effort to try and bring back to nice.
buy it as a track bike or hack, but it will never be a nice one.
also bear in mind no history, no mileage known, ex racer, makes it far less desirable to the purists.
i reckon top whack that ones worth 7k tops IMO

Exactly Paul,
A waste of time and money, unless you want a track bike, or paint/prepare it like the ones I saw at Mallory 1000 bikes.
Most valuable are UK original unrestored with history, then restored, then rough.
Impossible to make a rough one half decent without replacing or restoring most parts. [cost/availability]

Buy the best you can find, or the best you can afford.

Have had her 4 years and only ridden it twice, is totally mint and I am afraid I will drop it and cost me a fortune, sounds really stupid i know but is in to good condition to ride! I know they were built to ride but think this will end up in a collection on a big garage somewhere.
I have far to many bikes anyway!!

+1 with this one. And IF turning it into a track bike...there is an option to spend some of that pot with the extra dosh of cash on some tasty bits from Mr. Durbahn...

I'd agree too ABR. I'd crap myself every time I went out. I know they're meant to beriden but I coudn't stand the idea of trashing one.
Even if I had a dunger I'd consider it too valuable in parts to destroy. Fred Merkel works for me and can smash his RC30 lap with a stock CBR600RR so why race them?
As piece of ultimate engineering though, there are few to compare but I do understand why you'd sell it, hard as that might be.
