Do you mean the carb synch screws/springs?? These might be so out of adjustment that it's causing your problems.

Have you tinkered with these screws ever before??
yes with 2mm drill bits a made sure the gaps were all 2mm from the main butterfly on the front cylinder

have i fucked up?

lol!! don't mess with those screws :P

Not unless you have a running engine and a set of vaccumn gauges.

Where abouts are you in Wolverhampton? As it's where I live....

Possibly. ;)

But at least it's nothing that can't be fixed! I think you might have adjusted the butterflies to be open so much that no amount of idle adjustor setting will bring the idle down.

Forget the drill bit, what you can do is set the reference carb (the first carb, follow the haynes balancing order) so that the butterfly *just* shows 1 of the 2 small airholes in the carb bore, then adjust the others to match this. This will get it to at least a rideable state!

so my problem is poorly balanced carbs! i thought id lined them ok but obviously not, i thought it would be ok as a temporary fix until i got some guages, never synched any carbs only ever had single cylinders or injectors,

the bike is rideable at the min but yesterday did 50miles on £6 of juice so id hazard a guess that my fuel consumption is very high, and thats the reason why, it pulls pretty well all through the gears, can i expect big differences with balanced carbs and valve clearances sorted?

It costs £14 to fill it and you'll get about 150 miles so that isn't too far out.

Your throwing too many variables into the mix now.. valve clearances, carbs balanced.

Did it start idling really high after you played with the balancing screws?

valve clearances were just a Query, not messed with them,

as for the carbs there were from another bike as the last set (original) of carbs were dirty and wernt fuelling the bike right, so i got some 2nd hand ones of ebay and like a dick messed with the balancing thinking i was doing the right thing but obviously not.

i changed the jets, needle height by 0.5mm, and drilled the slide to 2.5mm dia

and then as i said earlier on i used a 2.0mm drill bit in the fixed butterfly (the unadjustable one) and then with the second 2mm drill bit i made sure all the other 3 carbs were at 2mm the same as the main carb. hope that sheds a little more light?

ill pm you my mobile if youd rather i talk it through it may make it more clear?

I see :)

I'll bring some vaccumn gauges and carb cleaner.. the other carbs might be salvageable if we can't get these carbs running!

You could always use the ones from your other set.
