Karl: no need to see which pickups your bike has, it wouldn't run properly with your RVF cdi if it had nc30 pickups.

I think it might be a tacho issue. Check to see whether there's a ground wire screwed properly into the back of it perhaps.

Will get some pics up of my rvf tacho soon for you to compare.

When you say it wouldn't run properly, i assume you mean the engine wouldn't run properly, as you know my engine is running fine :)
I'll have a look at the back of the Tacho and see if it has a ground wire connected to it, all of your help is much appreciated Cammo.
Next on my list is a set of samco hoses, either from Thailand or the UK. The bike runs fine and i don't want to waste money trying to squeeze 5-10 bhp out of it, i'm looking at spending money to keep her running the way she is for a long period of time preventative measures :)

Cammo, just a quick update.
When going to get my rear brake line replaced for another braided line (first one rubbed on the chain) :S
The mechanic told me that i don't have an RVF CDI, he told me i have a VT250 CDI...... I have no idea what model of Honda that relates to in the UK market, but non the less he said it's a good upgrade and other than the Tacho issue he's impressed with the bike. That's nice coming from someone who has no has 12 nc30/nc35's in his garage built from chassis up by himself, nice to fins someone who knows what they are doing, and there aren't many of those here in Thailand.
I'm assuming that i can't get the tacho working properly with this VT250 CDI, correct?? :)

Karl :)

Why would you want that CDI?

I smell horseshit dude... a 250 twin that will rev???? not to 15000 I imagine..

Can you not swap him for an RVF one if he thinks they are that good?

lol, i thought the same.
But the bike runs like a dream, maybe his translated English was poor.
I'll try and take some pics of the CDI this week and post in this thread, i was a bit surprised when he said what he did.
A 250cc v twin or parallel using a CDI that just happens to work better than the original VFR/RVF CDI did in the first place...... Stinky piles of horse poo indeed :D
Pic coming soon :)

You can tell if it's an rvf cdi by the lettering on it. It should have the code 'MR8' printed somewhere on the unit.

If not, then I guess that is your problem(!).

It is possible that other cdi's will work on the rvf (they are simply crank trigger wasted spark units after all).

Let us know what you find.

I'll do some investigation at the weekend Cammo. :)

P.S. I like your bicycle, Giant, very nice. I had to give up my pride and joy a fully spec'ed up GT LTS2000 DH when leaving the UK, sad to see it go but no at all sad to say goodbye to the UK :D
