lol, i just read back through this post, and on page one gareth is asking for a go on it when he came over - well he got a go on it, and it left an impression on him too i think.

Paul, a standard pre 97 916 should remain just that - standard. it is what it is, far from perfect but a true icon. so buying a 916 you are buying not the best of the breed but far the most desirable and loved bikes even by none bikers - everyone has heard of the 916 and its name brings up a mental image.
you may be happier with a full engine rebuild - i was until i got the bill. dont know how much you earn but a couple of months wages should cover it.

Wish I never sold mine now after seeing yours Paul because I loved the joy it gave every time I rode it.
I really don't want to sell the NC but your making me think now lol.
