It is nowt to do with top speed...more to do with the fact that when you fall off and possibly hit someone then you are going to be screwed as you won't be insured. If you want to feel faster get a 14t front adn a 43 rear and it will accelerate bloody quickly. It will also only do about 110 flat in top but gets there faster....

Take it like a man..the rules are the rules. Be glad you don't ride a CBR125 and think you are bad...

@ Dan - yep, I bet it does your head in but as long as you can get up to speed then cornering is what it is all about for me...and 34bhp is plenty to get some good speed up for a carve at some corners.

ref my graph - that is my no9 bike and it is old and tired now - was running a twin stack and RVF carbs, no airbox, Ignitech CDI etc etc... It has over 70k on it and probably needs a refresh. What is more important is the smoothness and shape of the curve - it has no flat spots or jerks, it justs comes on lovely style and is very easy to ride.

im not bothered bout top speed, and if you hit someone are they really gunna disassemble your bike to see if there are restrictor washers in.
the only way they can prove it is if they cantch you goin over 110.....in which case you have no licence anymore anyway.

i am putting the restrictors in, but dont particularly wanna keep them in for the whole 2 years

It is not about top speed at all.

It is about having the insurance valid for you and your bike in case you damage someone and they claim against you or if you are hit and have to make a claim.

No point having it if it is invalid. The law says you must have it and for once, this is actually a good law to have.

Man, I am getting old when I think "pesky kids" lol...they know it all..

End of the day, it is your ass so you'll do as you please but in the long run 2 years is not a long time at all...and learning to ride a less powerful bike will teach you skills that people who have never ridden a weedy bike will have had little chance to learn.

BUt all that is another thread entirely...so for now! Good luck with your test..am sure you'll be right and once you get out there then maybe you can look at all this guff in the summer! :peace:

if you do ding the bike in a crash rest assured the first thing they will do is check the restriction is in place , i read somewhere on here that they even knew that the headlights were on on one bike that was crashed by measuring the the filiments in the bulbs , how anal is that
a friend of mine come off his bike in a minor accident with another bike back in the summer , he had removed his restriction and now has no bike no licence and a nice debt to boot, is it worth it, i dont think so up to 100mph you wouldnt even notice the restriction is in place really , for the risk, a few seconds shaved off ,and a extra 30mph ill keep mine in , only 6months or so to go so ill leave it,
new licence £75 (after a ban)
another cbt £100
another test £££££££s (more if you had a ban)
another bike (as yours was crushed )
insurance quote pffff
my point is when i see my buddy or rather he sees me jump on my bike and zoom off i can see the pain in his face as totally gutted
