Re: Surprise Behind Generator Cover ??
I followed the 'Electrosport' guide which differs. I charged the battery @ work and checked it with a multimeter (which had a low battery too
now replaced), and so readings it produced were not accurate.
I did not attempt to check the battery by running the lights, just wanted to turn the engine!
On the upside, my new battery/charger arrived today!
Currently got my old battery on charge at the moment, it's diagnosed as good so far
, but gonna leave it for overnight at least before trying it out.
Should get to the bottom of the issue tommorrow anyway, as I'm not at work.

Re: Surprise Behind Generator Cover ??
Right,
Optimate 4 says my old battery is good
so to avoid wastage I'm continuing troubleshooting with this for the time being.
Bridging the starter relay does not turn the starter motor.
Syptoms during bridging;
*Instrument lights dim/disappear
*Voltage across battery terminals reduces to 1.5V
I'm going to drop oil and remove R/H engine casing to have a look see.
Any help appreciated, regards,
Tom

I've searched for this guide but can't find it, what is the expectant result of this test? I have tested the battery by running the lights for 30 seconds, and the battery still appears to retain 12.8 > 13V afterwards.Neosophist wrote:Did you follow the elextrex world guide at all?tomski wrote:Battery and Optimate 4 now on order
The first step is fully charge the battery and test the voltage.
The Second step is testing the battery by putting the headlight on for 30 seconds
:D

Many apologies for this ongoing, topic diverting thread. Thanks to anyone whose contributed....
Right, removed starter motor n tested directly to battery; no sign.
Either: * Starter Motor is dead
* Or more likely
the battery is dead
Best get my new battery prepared then.

there are a couple of things that the VFR loves, one is pristine plugs, another is a real good battery

Sounds like your battery is knackered, if it drops below 10vtomski wrote:Right,

Theres the electrical diagnostic guide.
Follow it in order from pg1, dont skip anything and charge the battery first. I'll go with the batterys knackered.

With regret I must inform you... the battery was dead
I pulled the lid off to find it was bone dry and crystally inside. Maybe shudda looked a little sooner, ey?
But It starts so beautifully with the 9Ah replacement. Its like sweet sweet music!!
Done some brief checks with the MM and everything appears to be tip-top, but I'll give it a thorough check over ASAP.
