that hot fox fzr will pull out and pass most 400's like its a 600...unless your in the 80hp range,nobodys got a chance..
shame the things a time bomb or being crashed
hallidays ridden it,and his words were.. it pulls wheelstands..not wheelies,WHEELSTANDS.

it's come past me doing warp speed a few times, watching it powerwheelie out of crash corner down the hill at broadford was bullshit. i got abit more performance since then but im still atleast 10hp plus down. i don't think it matters how it handles when you can just eat every other 400 down the straight like that.
comming out of some slow speed 2nd gear corners my front gets very light now that the handlebars wobble/shake, so maybe getting alittle air but fox's front wheel was carrying for a bit....i just wish my bike did that

My CBR is quick. very quick but I was at Rocky and an RLR NC29 was really motoring. Definately quicker than mine over shorter distances. I was on my R6 and it was holding me down the fast straight. Ok, I could have pilled past or made an easy overtake had I been up his chuff at the start of the straight but for a 400 to pretty well match my rcae 600, that was impressive.
Then again, engine refreshes every 12 hours at £1000 ish, costs almost as much as my R6

wow! sounds like i've been away too long from the 400 race scene down here in Melbourne.
Greg,Stimpy and co. the way you blokes are talking about the power some of the bikes are making now almost scares me... 80hp really??? ...i'm having second thoughts as to whether i should come back and race at all now! To be keeping up with the orange bikes,especially Tozer's is no mean feat... btw,speaking of orange bikes is it true Casso's doing 2's at Broadie now???
I'll be back in a couple weeks time for what's left of the 09 race season here in Vic... plan is to do the last 2 or 3 interclubs and MRRDA Island round.Hartwell season i think is over for the year.

I dropped my bike off for QLD today, and got a tour around Terry's play corner at the workshop. Jesus Mary Mother Of Christ! It's no wonder those FZR's fly. Beautiful crank work he does on them, runs total loss, machines the head a bit runs stock cams with F - ALL head work, just enough to smooth the inlet tract doesn't alter the shape at all. Seriously after seeing the engines apart, he is probably putting in a similar amount of head work to what is in mine but for a lot more gain. All the real work is in the crank (hes almost finished my crank for my new engine...) but even then, they don't do a lot to the engines to get them flying.
Apart from a bit more work to the crank I would honestly say the FZR's have had a similar amount of work to my engine, but for a lot more gain.
The distance from carb to cylinder on the FZR looks to be significantly shorter than on the NC29 and I wonder if that is to their advantage.
Pete, Last round I did with Casso had him doing high 4's, I've seen him do close to a flat 4 but no 2's while i've been there!

if you look at the fzr engine in general, its a more modern engine. big bore/short stroke. look at the angle of the intake tracks. the fzr engine is the most modern design 400 engine, it just looks like its going to work better. the zxr isn't too bad but still shits all over the cbr engine.

At the end of the day it has taken ages to get my CBR to where it is now, and all the lessons learned are going into one final engine - which has the build thread on here - to be raced next year. That will be the end of the CBR development and spending.
All said and done it is a 20 year old engine and design. It doesn't matter what I do, it won't keep up with a well ridden 600 (proved that for myself at a track day this weekend gone). I'll do my best to keep the bike until I die an old man, and get the most out of riding it, it's a hoot! Having said that, I haven't owned a 'nice' or 'new' bike for too long and want to get a 600 to race. Hopefully next year. Or the year after. Hopefully.

no 400 will keep up with a 600. 200cc extra plus latest designs. 130hp (aus supersport) to say 80hp (leading 400). no chance. unless you have a total gimp on the 600.
i wouldn't put high hopes on your crank transforming your bike into a monster. just doesn't work like that from experience. taking some weight off is good but im not sure going to the extreame that fox's goes to. its going to make it hard to ride, and cut your top speed.
maybe we should swap bikes for a session at qld? are you doing the friday practice? see how mine compares to yours.

There was a dyno chart on here a while ago of a bdk fzr 400cc making a gen-u-ine 92hp at the wheel, no shit... mental!!
I think even bdk admitted the engine wouldn't last too long though.
