Re: Wheel bearing?

Hello guys wondering if i can jack in on this tread as it seems pretty much resolved and quite close to a similar problem that I have had recently. Maybe you could offer me some advice? Having had an old front tyre on my bike for ages and a rear tyre that had squared off pretty badly I was having serious trouble getting my bike to go round corners! Thinking it was probably the tyres I decided to stick a fresh set on (part worn on front) and this did indeed seem to cure the cornering niggles as it usually does. However on the ride home, braking at the bottom of a particularly steep hill there was an almighty grinding noise from somewhere down by my disks. Grinding metal type of sound. I stuck my arm in the air and pulled up onto the pavement and got off to look for....something? but nothing looked damaged, sticking out or hanging off! I limped home using the back brake incase it was a front brake issue and the next day drained, cleaned and re-bled the calipers, freed up the pistons, cleaned the pads, raised the front off the front off the ground on the side stand, felt for movement in the forks forward and back and wheel side to side, and spinning freely with no pads in, with no obvious rumbling from the wheel. Thats about as far as my diagnosing goes though. I have to admit i've ridden the bike since and not heard the noise again but there is definitely something going on in there somewhere. after mid to heavy braking, rolling up to the lights there is a noticeable grinding noise from somewhere in the front end, its not feeling solid in the turns dipping in slightly to quickly and generally not feeling planted. Now i'm no good with this kind of thing and generally have no idea how to sort these things out (i'd rather get someone else to do it) but I know when somethings not right. This thread grabbed my attention because it sounds similar to what's happened to me but i may be way off the mark. can anyone lend some advice, as I've a track day approaching and need to get it sorted before then. Seems smileys are appreciated so a few in advance is only right I feel.
.................
Cheers guys
