Hello guys wondering if i can jack in on this tread as it seems pretty much resolved and quite close to a similar problem that I have had recently. Maybe you could offer me some advice? Having had an old front tyre on my bike for ages and a rear tyre that had squared off pretty badly I was having serious trouble getting my bike to go round corners! Thinking it was probably the tyres I decided to stick a fresh set on (part worn on front) and this did indeed seem to cure the cornering niggles as it usually does. However on the ride home, braking at the bottom of a particularly steep hill there was an almighty grinding noise from somewhere down by my disks. Grinding metal type of sound. I stuck my arm in the air and pulled up onto the pavement and got off to look for....something? but nothing looked damaged, sticking out or hanging off! I limped home using the back brake incase it was a front brake issue and the next day drained, cleaned and re-bled the calipers, freed up the pistons, cleaned the pads, raised the front off the front off the ground on the side stand, felt for movement in the forks forward and back and wheel side to side, and spinning freely with no pads in, with no obvious rumbling from the wheel. Thats about as far as my diagnosing goes though. I have to admit i've ridden the bike since and not heard the noise again but there is definitely something going on in there somewhere. after mid to heavy braking, rolling up to the lights there is a noticeable grinding noise from somewhere in the front end, its not feeling solid in the turns dipping in slightly to quickly and generally not feeling planted. Now i'm no good with this kind of thing and generally have no idea how to sort these things out (i'd rather get someone else to do it) but I know when somethings not right. This thread grabbed my attention because it sounds similar to what's happened to me but i may be way off the mark. can anyone lend some advice, as I've a track day approaching and need to get it sorted before then. Seems smileys are appreciated so a few in advance is only right I feel. :wtf:  :worthy: :worthy: :worthy: :worthy: :worthy: :worthy:  ................. :tits: Cheers guys

I dont think the noise is anything to to with turning in quick and less stability, the handling could be down to the profile of the new tyres.

A bit confused when you say after servicing calipers, the noise is gone but after braking and rolling to a stop there is still a grinding sound.

It sounds like brakes, why did you spin the wheel without pads in, how did you free the pistons, remove them and clean the seal grooves in the caliper bores?

I would look at brakes first, may be a bearing but you should hear that all the time you spin the wheel.
Unusual for brakes to grind if binding, unless something silly like pad in back to front, wheel in wrong way round, thick and thin spacers reversed.
Spin the wheel again and check for freedom and listen for rubbing/ metallic noises.
Dave.

If the bearings have shat themselves you'll see lots of rusty ball bearing dust on and around your dust covers. get on your knees and get a look mate..

Mine failed on the snake pass...I had to go to a bike shop in Hyde and they sold me bearings but would not lend me any tools to fix it...or let me pay for them to fix it.. assholes.

I went to a local taxi garage and 3 foreign dudes were super keen to get the chisels and old spanners out... between 3 of us we held th front of the bike off the ground for an hour while be beat the wheel up to make it release the exploded bearings... What fun!
