Re: My half arsed F400 nc30
Balls,
the guy i bought the legs from on the 675.cc forum has been in touch, he's just gotten the invoice from having the legs serviced and it has advised him that the legs have previously been bent and straightened!
He's offered to give me a full refund on the legs as they are a set he bought as race spares himself and he wasnt aware that they were previously bent and straightened.
Ummed and ahhred about it and i think i have gotta send them back, one leg has been smearing oil ever so slightly, which i was hoping was just a little oil that was sat between the dust seal and the oil seal from when the rebuild was done. However now im thinking its due to them having been previously bent.
I paid straight money price for them so really i think sending them back is the only option. The guys been honest and genuine so fair play to him.
So i was once again hunting for 675 legs which luckily turned up on eBay.

I'm not sure, I'm am pretty sure they are the early type fork this time though without the high and low speed compression but I'm not sure to be honest. Just need the spacers sorted so will bolt it up tomo and then have a measure up, I'd imagine that ricks will be right.

Im using ricks spacers and they seem fine although by eye they look a touch out, think when had a measure up i decided on 24.5 and 20mm where as ricks are 25 and 20 but i had no issues with them last time out

I'm pretty sure the 25mm and 20mm are correct as the centre to centre from fork tops works out in exact mm. Perhaps the wheel bearing in the wheel is not fully seated?Drunkn Munky wrote:Im using ricks spacers and they seem fine although by eye they look a touch out, think when had a measure up i decided on 24.5 and 20mm where as ricks are 25 and 20 but i had no issues with them last time out

Re: My half arsed F400 nc30
All bolted up and seems ok, calipers on but struggled to get a good measure in the spacers, used some lock wire in the end and marked that then measured it, reckon 25&20 is pretty much right.
Had an interesting discovery, my "nc30 forks" appear to be, well, not nc30 forks, they are 720mm from axle centre to top. Not 698 as nc30 forks should be.
I think they are nc23 forks, as when I originally bought the bike it had nc23/29 fork lowers and calipers on the front of it, I assumed someone with a nc23/29 had robbed the lowers and brakes to upgrade their nc23/29 and exchanged the lowers hence why my nc30 had nc23/29 fork lowers and brakes.
So I just swapped the lowers and sorted some nc30 brakes out and cracked on. Apparently though I was wrong. I'd had them set up with 5mm through the top yoke as recommended and assumed my geometry was bang on with the dog bone mod but it wasn't the the trail will have been out making it slower to turn.
Which brings me onto my next problem, I was going to put the 675 forks in and mimic the measurements that I had to keep the geometry as it was, but this isn't an option now, so I was unsure where to set the 675 forks?
Nc30 forks are 698mm then you run 5mm through the top yoke so from the top of the yoke to the axle centre is 693mm. However with the nc35 headset adapter I have raised the top yoke 20mm so do I account for this and set them at 693mm plus 20mm so 713mm from top yoke to axle centre. I basically dicked around a bit then remembered that the lad in the IOM I was chatting and emailing about this had told me how he ran them so I found his email. He had his at 9mm through the top yoke. So I copied that as a starting point.
Then checked the trail measurement with some string lines, not good 110mm trail. But then when I got home to check it turns out I measured the trail wrong as I used the centre line of the forks rather than the headset I think with maths I can work out the difference but I think I am missing some measurements so may have to re measure it properly, I probably would anyway to check my dodgy maths if nothing else.
I don't really want to drop the forks through anymore anyway, as the clip ons are starting to go off the 50mm section of fork where they taper down to 48mm I think.
So anybody who has done this mod, where are you running your forks?

Re: My half arsed F400 nc30
Hi all,
I'am not sure to be the right exemple to folow but if i can help you...
First think i'am running Cbr 600 rear shock, so my seat is a little bit higher than original one (+1cm)
I have tried "normal" setup for 675 fork, -1,7cm from top clamp and it was terrible. Each time i took brake lever my rear wheel jump into the air... (Ok my fork compression is also quite hard)
So i rode 0cm and smooth fork setup, and it seems to be a better set up but rear seems to be too hard on reacceleration (sorry for my english)
Next time, i'll try -0.5 and smoother rear setup....
To be continued....

Re: My half arsed F400 nc30
Hi goulme,
That's great info, after fitting my clipons it looks like the forks should stay flush as like hodge said I am running out of room for the clipons to fit on the forks.
