no it wasnt, but im sure now it will, what does the leak suggest? its probably fucked now

The leak suggests that something is leaking!
Maybe a pic of it might help? If it's leaking it presumably needs rebuilding by a shock servicing company. Which would probably cost less than a 1000RR shock plus new spring.

well i already bought the s1000rr shock for 75 quid. what type of spring do i need now?? 800, 7" , 2.25"? does that sound right, i am 11 stone/

Are you sure this just isnt the sound of the oil moving into the resevoir and back.
You will get a fluid sound if you compress the shock, and you will hear it in the reservoir, especially if your not running the engine at the time.
Unless theres a big pile of shock oil all over the floor it sounds completely normal to me.

hmm well it didnt sound like any fluid movement to me and i did nothing to compress the thing.. just moved the cabke, and the noise came out of where the cable join on to the res, because it flexed at that point when i tried to use cable tie. anyway, isnt the s1000rr shock meant to be an upgrade for the oem shock?

LMAO please please have pics of you trying to change the spring!!! I had to fabricate a tool to change the spring, looked like a device from the SAW movies but worked.

what do i need to remove the spring? if its too hard il just give it to the garage to do it along with my front wheel to get the stem changed.

You need some special tool.
If it was me with a BMW shock I'd send it off to get re-sprung and re-valved
