Re: bike wont start now? any ideas why?
Do not jump the bike with a fully dead battery.xivlia wrote:ah okay, thanks. no charger though :\. gonna wait till my dad is home so i can jump start the bike with his car.
UPDATE:.....i tried to jump start the bike....when i connected the jump leads from my dads car to my bike....the ignition lights came on...(neutral light and oil lights)...but when i press the ignition switch...then relay makes a click and shorts itself out....can anyone help me with this....why is this thing shorting out?????? the bike does NOT TURN OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The charging system isn't designed to recharge a dead battery and will put an extra load on it.
Can you push the bike around in neutral? just to isolate it's not stuck in gear.
I'm still going with flat battery here. Charge that with a battery charger first.
Use a motorcycle battery charger not a car one, sounds like your battery is dead anyway.. bike probably has nc30 classic charging problems.
With a fully charged battery try and start it.
If it's still clicking then it's either a stuck solenoid or a stuck starter but it is most likely your dead battery.
Get it charged or replace it.

If electrics work with the car battery connected and the ignition switch ON and you only get a "click" when you press the starter button I would agree with Neosophist that the first thing to check would be the starter solenoid.
What do you mean by "shorts itself out" regarding the starter solenoid?

well once it clicks...all the ligths go off and wont start. and even when i turn it on and off the lights wont come back on..i have to wait like 15 mins before i can turn on the ignition and see the lights again...and Neo, i cannot push the bike as my bike is still on the stands and does not have wheels attached to the bike.

You seem to be making a lot of threads lately with fairly straightforward issues. If you searched first you'd find loads of threads about this kind of thing.
Anyway, take Neosophist's advice and go and buy a battery charger as they're an essential garage item, or just go get a new battery, might be worth getting a new one anyway for peace of mind, especially if the one on the bike is deeply uncharged. Stop rushing through things and assuming the worst every time something little happens.

Are you leaving the car battery connected when you try to start the bike?

Thats becuase the battery is dead.xivlia wrote:well once it clicks...all the ligths go off and wont start. and even when i turn it on and off the lights wont come back on..i have to wait like 15 mins before i can turn on the ignition and see the lights again...and Neo, i cannot push the bike as my bike is still on the stands and does not have wheels attached to the bike.
Forget trying to jump start it and just charge the battery up properly.
Do you have a car battery charger? Give it only 30 minutes with this charger and measure the voltage at the battery.

hello guys, jsut to let you all know ive now got the bike up and running. im not so sure what the problem was but, all i did to fix it was to remove the battery leads and the starter solenoid leads..clean them up with a metal brush and then reconnect and it worked...no idea why this worked but it worked...anyway, thanks alot for everyone who gave me advise.

The starter motor draws high current, loose/dirty connections in any part of the chain from battery to starter motor will cause a no start.

Yep sounds like a crap connection.
Next test the electrical system.
Got a multimeter?
