I'd talked with Mike at length about the Cryo and I guess I'll be holding off till I can save my pennies. As far as similar results to shot peening I would have to say no. Cryo changes the material at a molecular level, altering the grain structure. In addition to Cryo he had recommended REM finishing which from my basic understanding would be more similar to the shot peening, at least as far as both are a surface treatment.

If you or anyone else would like to get some cryo done with the group Mike recommended, they are somewhat local to me, I would be more than happy to receive parts and have them Cryo'd and ship them back... although I'm sure the shop would be OK to receive and re-ship as well, but sometimes international shipping is a different story. If I can help, feel free to PM me.

Will shot peeining give similar results??

Here's a place in NZ that do Cryo:
http://www.ssm.co.nz/heat-treatment.cfm

Keep looking in your local racing magazines. NZ and Australia have a TON of performance companies. I am sure you can find something there. Otherwise....ship it on over here.

As for Shot Peening vs Cryo, Scotty is right. Cryo treats the entire part throughout, changing the molecular structure and density. Shot Peening is strictly a surface sompression technique. Think of Shot Peening as adding an elastic property to the surface of the metal to avoid cracking from tension. It's similar to the corugated pleates in leathers that let them stretch without tearing. REM, on the otherhand removes surface imperfections that would otherwise be a stress-riser or crack initiation point. So, they all do slightly different things but all can help reduce the tendancy to crack.

Just One more thing is there any specific order that I should do the Cro in as I plan to balance my crank an rods etc should this be done before or after the cryo or does it not matter??. Also is it worth Cryo pistons??

Again coming 2nd hand here from Mike.... Cryo *everything* before any machine or balancing work. I'm essentially waiting on these pistons to send my cryo stuff. Any new update from Omaga on this?!??

Since the last post and cc from Sarah, I have not heard anything from Omega. Can someone in the UK give a personal call to Omega and find out what the stop or delay might be? CMSMJ1, are you up for this?
