Well next time you have the carbs off I got told by Rick O to get the idle one so you can just see the tip/curve of the hole by the butterfly and then adjust all the others to get them as best you can the same. Worked for me and that's how I do it all the time. Good luck and best be quick lol.

1. erm... i know what id say to that..
2. Least its runnign now.. its hard to mess the carbs up so bad that balancing stops them from running!
When you set them by eye did you use the drill bit method? get a small small drill bit and turn the idle screw up to open the butterflys just enough so you can feel it drag in carb 2 (the fixed one you cant adjust), then using the screws adjust the other 3 so it is the same.
Dont forget to back the idle screw out else itll idle way too fast... now when you balance it they should already be really close.

Hi all, been a few weeks I'm getting a bit slow at posting as have lots going on with the family.
Anyway, thanks for the tip Neosophist and yes I did use this method in the end and I would say balance wise they're pretty much spot on; however I have a different issue now in that the bike is difficult to start.
To get it running I have to spray carb cleaner into the airbox and once it's going for 10 or so mins it's ok in that I can turn it on and off with no issues but if I leave it for 30mins to and hour the bike won't start again without carb cleaner. Also the idle is a bit erratic in that it rises and falls my hunch is that I have an air leak and I think it's at the carb rubbers.
I've not been able to deeply seat the carbs - I have new rubbers (RVF ones) the right way up with the notch facing the right direction. I make sure that the rubbers are hot and nice and soft before re-fitting the carbs but I just can't them seated 100%.
I met speedy today and he said that the rubbers may have part numbers for front and rears can someone answer that? As I was thinking of rotating the rubbers.
Also, just to confirm the pilot screw setting I turned the screws all the way in until they stopped then I turned them all out 2.25 turns that is correct yes? If this is correct I can rule this out as a possible cause.

Just confirmed the part numbers (the RVF ones) and they are different:
16221-MR8-900 for
cylinder #2 (front left) & cylinder #3 (rear right),
16211-MR8-900 for the other two cylinders; the rubbers are actually marked with #1 4 & #2 3 on them! I have here the old rubbers and looking closely at them, the only difference I could spot is one extra nipple on the rubbers for carbs
#1 & #4 (16211-MR8-900), which I'm guessing it's to secure the clamps in place so as to prevent them from turning around when tightning them!
As for the pilot screw, the standard setting on the NC30 is 2 turns out; you're running a race exhaust though and I'm not sure this would be the ideal for your set up.

Hi Speedy, thanks for the speedy response LOL. I will check the part numbers tomorrow ... although that means taking 'em off again for the millionth time

Still I can use some lubricant on the rubbers (oohh err) to see if they slide on better.
As fo the pilot screws I followed the guide
viewtopic.php?f=24&t=14524 and just checked it again. I'm right with the 2.25 turns out from fully in guess I'm starting to lose my memory .. must be the age or too much lager!

Hey All,
I've been using pen and paper to put together my paint scheme ideas but not the same as seeing the colours and shapes on the actual thing so the next best thing is working with photos. I just wanted to find out what (if any) photo editing applications anyone's used to do this?
I need something pretty simple - I really only want to copy colours and add shapes sounds simple in theory but difficult in practise. I've tried a couple of things already like fotoflexer and seahorse but haven't really worked well.

Hey All,
Been a fair few weeks since my post. Anyhow, bike should be coming off the front garden this weekend woohoo! And then it's heading off to Bill Buns for MOT and a once over then onto the paint job.
However, I'm missing a fairing spacer and I did come across some alloy one's on ebay but can't find them atm is someone on here selling them?
Also whilst I have checked the forum about side lights I'm not sure what type I should be ordering - was considering LED type but is the size T05 as that seems too big to fit?
