most likely either the speedo drive needs replacing (it has bearings in it but its a replace the unit job IIRC) or the speedo cable has got very stiff.

my gut feel would be the first one - check the 2nd by inserting the end of the cable in a drill and see if it turns fine.

the speedo cable and drive turns fine i can turn it with my hands easily...

The speedo gearbox drive may turn easily by hand, but turn it slowly to see if it is notchy which will load the nylon drive at speed.
If so, remove the seal in the top where the cable enters and run light oil in.

Spin it on a small drill to get the oil down into the gears and bearing.

Hub bearings don't normally have tight spots although the rear wheel will not spin that freely compared to the front.

Check for tight chain link side plates, I assume it is on an ABBA stand or similar, if on rear stand, then it may be the stand bearing itself.

hmm okay, il check all that then. and its on a rear axle stand which connects to the hole on the swingarm..would that make friction on the rear wheel?

The speedo drive widget usually break because you fit the sprocket cover on without getting that lined up first. The only other thing I can think of is that it's made of nylon, which might over time weaken through exposure to (chain) oil?

If the rear wheel is tight, then lift the back up and try again with the caliper off. If that is the same, then slacken the chain right off and try again. If it's the same, it's probably your wheel bearings. Bad bad things will happen if you do not then take them apart, clean and regrease!

The stand I had had the spindle on a bearing, so it didn't add much friction at all. Depends what type you have.

okay. ive been buying a copper gasket from ebay. which looks like a hollow cylindericle gasket. and now i found a diffrent type of gasket from my manifold on the bike....its flattened and 1 mm bigger than the ones ive bought...will they still fit in? because it did say for vfr400 nc30 when i bought them...



the clean and shiny one is my new one and the black one is the one i took out from the manifold..

i bought a set from david silvers ,there was 6 in total, the copper ring type was for joining the rear down pipes to the rear manifold , and there were 4 thicker sleeve type for the cylinder heads, since then ive chaged pipes and im using the copper type like in your pick and all seems ok (OE ones do have diffrent part numbers )

oh...so your using 6 copper ones? cause thats how much ive bought... hope theyl work fine.
