I'd be interested to know what he has? I could do with something with an ID that I could test it on the road like you did, and something that doesnt require a massive amount of mechanical ability!

Quick update, i managed to get a few hours in the garage to finish off plastigauging the crank and rods on the UK motor today and thankfully all are within tolerance. Hopefully will be able to check the bores and rings tommorrow and if all is well i can then start building up the bottom end and then make a start on the RVF heads.

Have to say its the first time ive used plastigauge, its mega fiddly stuff and i needed another pair of hands to make sure nothing moved when torquing things up.
You watch i will go to all this trouble and it wont make any more power than the worn smokey engine that its replacing :(

Yeah but your be safe in the knowledge that you have sound engine to build on, id love to have a crack at it one day. Ive got an empty crank case to start from, bores are rusty as hell tho so it'll have to bored out :grin:

Also when i was stripping an ex race motor i came across what i think looks to be balanced rods so will be popping these in also.

Sorry for the rubbish picture but you should be able to make out that the rod on the left has had material ground away compared to the standard one on the right. All four rods have a different amount removed to get them right.

Tommorrow i will be ordering lots of new parts which will hopefully land before Christmas so i can get cracking whilst im off work.

Hope you all had a good Christmas.
I managed to get loads done and would have had the bottom end complete but unfortunately the dealer has given me the wrong gearbox bearing so will have to wait until they re open before this can be sorted.

So i have started on the RVF heads until the bearing arrives.

Things were going great until i came across two bent valves when stripping the first head, i have a few spares so will check the guides for any damage before fitting these. Ive also bought a little pencil grinder off Ebay to give the ports a little tickle, nothing major just abit of a clean up. Will post up how this goes.

Both heads are fully stripped now but couldn't start rebuilding them until i had them aqua blasted along with the sump and rocker covers. They arrived back today looking really nice and well worth the money as all the port carbon has also been removed so all i have to to now is clean up any rough casting in the inlets and then they are ready to be re-built and fitted.

The guy charged me £65 for the two heads, two rocker covers and the sump which i didnt think was too bad considering how rough the front head, rocker cover was.
It was money i didnt really want/have to spend but now they are back im glad i did.
