Re: VFR400 rebuild
found a code inside the undertray today with colour codes and a model.... VFR400 R L
could be just the under tray so ill double check my frame number to be sure whaty exactally i have, dave, so whats the screw for do you know?? cheers
chain and sprockets are off!! came off easy enough, took the rear calliper off and drained system too, one of the pistons was seized in its bore .....ended up haveing to re-bleed the the systm about 3 times just to get it moving , with the combination of air locks and we all know the rear can be a twat to get going took a good 2 or so hours to remove both pistons. so looks like a new piston kit is needed too lol it just keeps on adding up.
the pads were FKED!! lol fell apart as i took them out and there is a huge pad depostit on the disc, stuck solid....grinder time lol
im leaving the yokes for now till i buy some jacks to jack up the front better, the wood i have in there at the mo aint confidance inspiring tbh. rather have it stable.
oh! another good win!!! my old man got in touch with his old sprayer mate from hendy ford and he s gunna do my wheels for beer tokens.....
2-pack. he says he also knows a powdercoater who will also do stuff for next to nothing!! winner.... lol not what you know, who you know
separated one of the forks, the other is stuck! must be the bushings or teflon nackerd cos its sticking, i cant do the slide hammer action on it cos it jams everytime, leaveing me having to turn the whole thing upside down and hit it with a rubber mallet just to dislodge it. also feels like the tube is still under slight vacum as i try to do it, so it slows right down just before the 2 ends meet and cant get a good tugg at it!! fker.....iv sprayed the shit out of the seal with penitratin shit so try again tommorrow or pop up the local biker mechanic to pull them apart for me, either way i think that tube is fked cos all the chrome has scratched and looks more like brushed chrome , not shiney or slide easy, like the other!!
cheers for reading lads

Re: VFR400 rebuild
The screw is preload for the forks. rick does two kits...so get the right one.
It may be that the fork you cannot split is actually bent...so for the £50 you might as well get some forks from Geoff33 and get the later ones..
It is going to be a decent moto if you keep this up.
Wait til it is back on the wheels before you get that 46mm undone, it takes a bit of strength but you want to clean it, it looks scabby all that rust down there!

Re: VFR400 rebuild
cheers mate, cool, so i do have adjustability on the forks, i never knew that. iv ordered the new up-grade kit off rick already and just needed to confim my forks where the early boys. new oil and dust seals too and bushes. i did consider buying some others just to save cash but like most things , till you recieve them you never really know what state there in....so could have ended up buying seals etc anyways for them, costing me even more cash. im gunna work with what i have but i think i want to change that stancion to be safe..... dont want to rebuild it then have it go again....
so on the look out for an early stancion lads, PM me please if you have old forks lying around.
thanks hadies n CMS.

Re: VFR400 rebuild
thats better,,,

now i have better support of the front i was able to remove my yokes and work on the front with a bit more confidence. took bearings and racers out, all in exellent condition, so will be using those again.....its a right cunt though trying to remove the lower bearing racer without a bearing puller!!! took best part of 3 hours, slowly n carfully mm by mm it down till POP !! only thing i needed to order today was new dust seals for when i refit.
wheels went off to paint today, prob be a few week turn around for those as its a favour..... took the stuck fork leg up the road to my local bike mechanic.....went back 3 hours later and he was still trying to remove the stunction tube LOL. i told him it best not be a big bill at the end and left him to carry on.
can anyone tell me what the 2 empty drilled mounting point are for infront of the engine!? it looks like somin can be slide right through the frame but what?? its not the r&g crash bungs cos dont they fit a bracket comin off the engine mount somewhere??!! i expect the part is included, unless its for the bungs that you need to cut the pannels to fit!? im after the non-cut type.
also, when looking for the r&g non-cut type it says there only for the japeness import bikes only....why is this?? does the uk model have a diff frame set up??
lots of question lol hope some of you lads can tell me whats what
cheers shaun.

Re: VFR400 rebuild
I don't know what they were originally intended for but I believe if you want to out a '30 engine in a '35 chassis that's where the mounting bolt goes (although someone who knows for sure may know better than I do)
