If the valves were being held open you'll get mixture blow-by and all sorts of nastys going on.

Hard to start, lack of power, general naff running.

had a great day working on the bike, check all my valves and all are within or at tollerance! what are the chances of that. will need some new shims on next inspection for sure.

It's alright for some, I have checked all my shims and every exhaust gap is well below tolerance, some as low as 0.08 where they should be 0.21 to 0.28 so how the fukc has that happened? I will be measuring the shims once my hang over has sorted itself out tomorrow!! Hopefully will be able to place shims in other slots to save some hastle.

If anyones bothered i've made an excel spreadsheet that helps to calculate the shim size required. its got all the formulas in so you just fill in the boxes and it spits out the sizes for you.

Hit me up with a pm if you want me to email to you (not sure how to put it on the forum...)

And now with finished measurements:

Brain is now too tired to work out which shims i can swap around and re-use and which i need to exchange!

...also this just shows how to check or am I wrong? Is there a thread about replacing the shims?

when you are checking the shims then it will be very obvious to you how you replace them..

looks like i might be giving this a go myself over the next few weeks, dont want to leave my carbs off any longer than needed, must say, it looks easy but sounds scary lol

Personally, I would not trust them unless they gave me detailed results of each cylinder, shim and clearance.

For the £200+ you'll be charged, you may as well get hold of Stephen A'lee and get his shop to do it - He is Plymouth based I am sure? I'd be happy for him to fettle the bike.
