I have a dremmel too, but ill repeat ''file by hand"jetblack wrote:Thanks Rick. i've got a dremmel with a large, flat grinding stone attachment (same size as the bushing face that needs to be ground down so i'm gonna try that first and if that fails i will revert to doing it by hand - Did you take the bush/insert out to file it or leave it in the shock body?
tried tapping it gently with a hammer but it doesn't look like it wants to move...
It soft as shit alu' you need to file till the shamfer of the mount has gone will take 5mins max.
You could end up removing to much and fucking it up.
Edit: mount/bush doesnt come out

Re: How to: fit a BMW s1000rr rear shock to a VFR 400 nc30
ok so i have not given it much thought, but so far as i have read in this thread:-
if using bmw shock jacks the backend up by approx 2"
if it's a vfr using bmw shock, 18" wheel and rvf linkage = fouling of the spring/swingarm
but if its vfr using bmw shock, 18" wheel and vfr linkage = 2" jackup and no clearance issues
so in theory rvf, bmw shock, 17" wheel and rvf linkage should also = 2" jackup and no clearance issues
but what about
rvf, bmw shock, 17"wheel and vfr linkage?

At a guess the rear would still be jacked up but only 1".mo haggs wrote:but what about

Yeah, thinking is if i remove 15mm jack up plate and use vfr linkage i'd hope for a smaller increase in hight at the rear.
It would be done to my race bike so i wouldnt want to change the geomatry too muchif i can help it.
Something to think about i recon

Thats the main problem with these shocks, the stock damping can barely deal with the soft BMW spring, it has no chance with the stiffer NC spring.jetblack wrote:Even with the rebound set to 10?porndoguk wrote:i wouldnt fit the s1000rr shock mo, its to bouncy for what you do.
