The bike passed its MOT !!!

I just left the bike shop and headed back home, out of the 30mph zone, opened up the throttle, and SNAP. the throttle cable snapped.

As its fitted with a QA throttle, there isn't a return cable and the bike just went into tick over.

3 and a half hours after pulling over and calling the RAC, I arrived back at my house, just 5 miles away.

The first RAC guy tried to re-do the swaged end of the cable but it was too tight and made the bike bounce off the rev limiter when it was started.
Luckily there was a pub nearby, so I sat in there and waited for the truck to collect me.
While I was waiting I was surprised to see how many people slowed or stopped to see if everything was ok, so if it was anyone from here - Thank-you! (Several bikers, and a couple in a blue transit van offered me help)

But at least the MOT was passed, and the Mercury twinstack system was ok without fitting baffles!

I've been trying to sort out this throttle cable issue by basically avoiding it!!

I thought it would be an ideal time to fit my RVF carbs, as they have all the cables I need already fitted.

So tonight I tried it.

Got the carbs on, airbox, tank and went to start it. nothing, just turning over.

So I stand back to have a think and then see the big puddle of fuel underneath

The carbs were p!$$ing fuel everywhere, so now I have them back off and need to sort them out (again)

So anyone have any tips on stripping and rebuilding leaky carbs?

I'm also on the look out for a choke cable (NC30) and its lever, as mine are sticking a lot. And an NC30 throttle 'A' cable (the pull one)

I want to get the bike up and running and sorted for the RAF Cosford meet next month.

That's what happened when I put the set of rvf carbs I have on mine

Haven't looked at them yet just decided to put a trusty set of 30 carbs on, it can only be something simple mate it's just a PITA finding it, helps if you can see what carb was leaking.

New cables ordered and on their way, so as soon as they arrive I'll get them on the bike and the '30 carbs and leave the RVF ones to sort out another time.

I think I'm gonna need to read up on carbs set-up and cleaning - hopefully there won't be too much wrong with them and it'll be a simple fix!!

So the bike should be ready by the end of April for any ride outs/meets or up coming trackdays (or maybe all 3!!)

did the ignitech stickers come mate?

A Little update - the bike is almost all back together now -

new throttle cable and choke cable too, a few turns of the starter and its ticking over nicely Hopefully I'll take it for a spin over the weekend.

I took this opportunity to try a bit of plastex on a cracked lug and it seems to have work amazingly well! plus I also used some on a toy helicopter belonging to my son to fix a light back on and its worked really well.

I'm just gonna try it now on the spare fairing I have for the Horipro scheme. Although I keep seeing other paint schemes and think - 'Hmmm.... that'd look nice.....' So maybe something a little different again, or maybes not!!!

Was out on the bike at the weekend - tried out the new throttle cable, works well but a little loose - I was turning it and nothing happening for about 1/8th of a turn then the cable would tighten and the revs increase.

So I need to adjust it up a bit. - I guess down at the carbs end? or move it onto one of the other setting holes on the QA throttle/ grip end?

I think the grip end would be the quickest and easiest option.

I'm also just about to swap fairings over to the Trackday set for the Odiham ARD (Airfield Riding Day) or track day as I like to call it!!

And also off to Cornwall for easter so I'll do a bit of Plastex repair to the fairings I have down there, then hopefully it won't be too long till I sort out the Horipro scheme!

Throttle cable adjusted nicely and easily too!!

Road fairing is now off and the track fairing on - just a couple of ty-wraps to secure the bottom of the lower fairings then its all ready to go.

Can't wait - its just a shame I can't get along to the Cosford meet a couple of days before the TD.
