Re: Six Hundred and Sixty
Messed about with the valves and put the head on.
So a bit more time spent on Sunday.
There's an exhaust stud which was broken at what was probably the manifold flange. It wouldn't budge before so I managed to run a thread die on it and cut enough to get a flange bolt on and then a nyloc. I tightened them together and eventually got the broken stud out which is a result
I dropped the cams in ready to check the valve tollerances - found out I lost one of the cam journal bolts and the cams don't look to special, still they're in for now and I turned the engine over 720 degrees with nothing locking up, so result no2.
So that puts me back to where I was before ... and on a little because the chain guide fouled up last time
After a few sleepless nights I think I'll look for another head / cams. I'll look to get it flowed properly rather than my bodging attempt, don't get me wrong I enjoyed it but I'm quite aware that I don't know what I'm really doing. I'll start the motor and run it before swapping things around.
As if by magic a side car engine turned up on the bay and some Yamaha gaskets - it's been converted to right hand gear change so that's something to have a look at.

This is like all the best things - slow and steady, building to a climax that we all know is going to be something special!

Re: Six Hundred and Sixty
I've put on a couple of the covers, masked up the rest of the surfaces and cleaned it all down ready for some paint.

I'll take the covers off again and do them silver. It's all looking ver engine like.

Stripped the cassings

And painted them

All they need now is some lacquer.

Casings look smart as a carrot, Evil.
Rare to have unscuffed ones to start with.

Re: Six Hundred and Sixty
It's still sitting on the bench. I did a lot to the Bimota SB6 recently ahead of a bike holiday with 3 trackdays. I replaced the clutch master, hose, slave and sprocket cover which meant dropping the engine. The forks were serviced, new brake hoses, tail light, block connectors, batteries, an ignition advancer were also added and the inside of the fairing got paint and reflective foil.
Now post hols I'll renew the chain and rear sprocket, a headlight bulb, indicator, and trace the fault with the rev counter. Make a new brake reservoir bracket and reset the front mudguard to work with a 70 profile tyre. In the colder days I'll send it to be rewired, it's beginning to have electrical faults .... but mainly I'm going to ride it a bit more often which is all just an excuse for not doing anything on the 660
