Have got loads of little niggly jobs out of the way this week, there really isnt much left to do now before i can get the bike in for its MOT, I made such a schoolboy error when fitting the vaccume hose take off plug and sheared the bloody thing! Decided id try to start the bike anyway and just suck on the vaccume hose to get fuel through, managed to get the bike started but couldnt figure out why the revs where just sat at 4k with no choke and fuel was appearing in the vee of the engine untill i remembered the hole where i sheared the vaccume hose plug

So anyway my plan for that is to drill it out as best i can and epoxy a replacement in there, there was no need for me to take it off in the first place so i cant see a reason not to have it fixed in there.

Image
Ordered 3 HRC exhaust springs, i figured that because JHA helped HRC design thier system the springs would be the same length and guess what? I was right they are exactly the same length.

Image
The last of my zinc coated stuff is back, im quite let down by the finish on most of this lot, im positive i could have done a better job with a kit myself!

Image
Some of the bolts fitted and the rear spricket routed the correct way round.

Image
Completly forgot i sent off most of the caliper bolts to be plated so i fitted those, makes the mounting bolts look bloody terrible and stand out though!

Image
All of the front end fitted, new M/C resevoir and cap with painted brackets, reaplcement clock roam, painted screen brace and clock mount and the hideously expensive new plastic stem plug. Im very pleased with how the cockpit is looking now pretty much everything has had a going over.

Image
The bits that have been refreshed look good but let down by the rest :(

Image
Repainted sidestand fitted, bit of a crap pic but the only one ive got. Looks pretty smart with the rubber on there too. And yes it does hit the exhaust pipe so may need spacing out at some point (only by 5mm or so)

Image

Image
Give the coolant pipes a lick of paint, again let down by the shonky looking engine paint.

Thats all for today, will hopefully have an update soon when i get my wheels back and can roll the bike out into the sunlight for the first time in 7 months!

That's coming along nicely kieran . Once it's all together you'll probably forget about the engine paint the main thing is it's all clean .regarding the plated parts its a bit late now but personally I would have sent them back they look like some of the parts I've done with a diy kit that haven't been properly prepared prior to plating and the zinc hasn't fully taken to the parts a good coating of acf50 on them might be worth doing.

Well one day i do plan to completly strip the engine and get it fully painted and rebuilt but thats a long way off yet. Yea i know what you mean about the zinc plated stuff, i had been waiting on it for 2 months and kept getting told oh come back next week and ill have brought it back from the platers, when i eventually got them back i really didnt want to wait around for it to be done again.

I have learnt alot on this rebuild but the most important thing is not to trust anyone else to do a proper job!

Sorted my vaccume hose plug with a replacement, new throttle cable, put the carbs/airbox/etc back on, tried to start it but no joy :( Have a feeling ive flooded it as it just backfires once or twice and then turns over and over not even sounding like its going to start, strange thing is if i remove the rear plugs i can still get a spark on them.

Heading out to the garage with some used plugs in a minute to see if i have any luck with those, my only question is how wet should my plugs be when i remove them right after turning the engine over for 30 seconds or so?

Really want to get the bike started and get it on the road now, even though its so close to being finished it feels like ive got ages left to go!

She runs! Swapped the 2 rear plugs with some spares i had and jump started it with my 800, took it off the choke pretty quickly and set the idle only issue ive got is when i rev the bike up a little to about 4k as i let go of the throttle the revs drop to about 3000 hang there for a few seconds then drop back down to idle and the bike allmost cuts out.

The second problem im having is i felt the pipes to see how hot they where and the front 2 headers are luke warm and the rear header pipes are boiling. I put my hand by each can to feel how strong the gas was coming out and the front heads felt much stronger than the rears, does this mean that im just running on the front 2 cylinders or the other way round?

You'll be wanting to put some working plugs in the fronts mate.. ballache, but worth it.

You may get away with swapping them front to back..but the proper fix is plugs. It always is, innit!
