Any idea what the 'moulding bar' is made from? Also do the plastex kits have an 'ingredients' type bit on the packet?

I am interested because I am certain the material used in a plastex kit is the same stuff as the plastic that beauty shops/nail salons use to make fake fingernails, it comes in a powder which is black, white or clear and is mixed with some kind of solvent and then literally painted onto existing fingernails and filed with a nail file once hardened to create those oh so lovely (not) claws that girls like to have. My partner runs a nail and hair salon so I have access to all of the materials and could give it a trial go sometime. Apparently the solvent is not easy to get hold of if you aren't in the trade but if you are or know somebody who is its a hell of a lot cheaper than the plastex kits (you do pay for convenience though with the kits).

I'd be interested to find out and share the information if its true.

Cheers
Adrian

Right - had a few hours to work on the bike today

I've replaced some of the front disc bolts with titamium ones. The reason for this is that the speedo is electronically 'driven' by the disc bolts on the front wheel. I was getting mega speed reading (230+ mph!!!) which were obviously wrong - I'm hoping that by changing the bolts to non magnetic ones (titanium) it will give a lower speed reading. - Thats my theory anyway!

I also drilled out and tapped a new thread for the top rad mount. On the left handside where the old one had sheared.

I tidied up the wiring around the dash, refitted the lights, and popped the horn back on.

Last of all was to fit the fairing and start it up to check its all still working.

Fairing went on without too many issues, so I then went to start it and got bugger all - Its been about 3 weeks or so since I last ran it up, but the battery was totally flat.

So now the seat unit is off again, the battery out and on charge. I'll try again soon. Then I'll book it in for an MOT.

Battery refitted after a long charge over night.

Connecyed the terminals up it fired into life on the first push of the button

I think I may need to invest in a new battery though as I expect tomorrow when I try starting it, it'll be flat again :(

Oh well, It could do with a new one anyway!!

Just pleased it started so well, and sounds sooo nice with the twin stack system on it!

Once the MOT is passed I'll have a go at fiting the RVF carbs which should suit the system better than the VFR's whic are currently on it.

Yey!!

The battery is still alive tonight and is holding Charge, so no needfor a new one - not just yet anyways!!

I've dug out my Translogic Microdash Instuction/ fitting booklet to look into setting up the tacho properly. It says - '........identify what type of ignition your application has, either '12 volt negative ground ignition' or 'CDI Ignition' before commencing the following section.'

So its CDi ignition for the NC30.

Next it says, '........ connect the yellow wire (on the Translogic Microdash loom) to any one of the ignition coil signal wires.'

Now this is the part I'm stuck on!! I know it sounds simple - but I just can't get it! How exactly do I just connect it? and I'm guessing it goes to one of the two small spade style connectors for the coil pack? or the wires which go to the coil?

I'm just a bit stuck and annoyed with it, and myself for not being able/understanding how simple it is or should be!

Anyones suggestions welcome or offers of popping round to sort it are welcomed!! All the tea and biscuits you can eat supplied!

Really - is it as simple as that? I was imagining inline splices and soldering etc etc. or am I jus over complicating things?!!!

I'll give the spiral wrap a go though.

Tony if you have some/ a little spare, I'd be very grateful! (Again!! )

no worries pm me your addy again.

Your then need to set the dash up, when you get to that bit we could maybe compare the options in my ignitech and koso dash to set it up the translogic.

does it not have the option to connect to the cdi for the rev pickup?

Had to buy a new Battery today - not too bad as I got a load of discount with the Halfrauds Trade card ;)

I also got the bike booked in for an MOT on tuesday - fingers crossed it gets on ok!!

Whilst I was there, another bike was being MOT'd - an old matchless, and its exhaust was waaaayy loud!! So hopefully there is no need to get baffles fitted.

The bike also fell off its stand today :( but luckily landed on the R&G crashbung and footpeg, and no damage was caused
I can't believe it happended and was cursing it whilst trying to pick it up and inspect te damage. I had visions of needing a new frame as there was a piece of old ally on the floor which looked like the frame ( I thought the sidestand had snapped off). But all was well in the end.
