Re: Ceramic bearings anyone ?
We are using them everywhere in the 560RR project. If they work out well the VFR will get them over the course of the winter.

Re: Ceramic bearings anyone ?
Right I had a reply on those measurements which is as follows
Matt,
$48.00 each, in stock.
So was that for just the front wheel bearings Spike16 ?
If so I will get them !! and I will take a before and after vid of spinning the wheel and see the difference like on the video I first posted, then I'll get rears measured and get them done too

Re: Ceramic bearings anyone ?
yep thats the front wheel bearings, the rear is a needle roller bearing so you'd have to check they do them in ceramic and ask a kind sold to measure theirs.
thats £30 a piece, quite expencive but if they do the job they hey, I find its the front pads rubbing slightly that slows the wheel down, find away of getting them to release fully and then you'd save a fair bit of resistance
Guy who ran my ctc course was a 125gp racer and consultant, said that was always a major thing, get the brakes to release fully or your always loosing speed, I can see ceramic bearings being used in lil 125 bikes for the same reason.
il stick with my genuine honda £4.20 posted bargain set off ebay for the moment mind, I could spend the extra £55 elsewere on the bike and get better gain's I think.
keep us posted on how they workout

Re: Ceramic bearings anyone ?
Out of the box the Ceramics are better than the steels. In talking to the guy that we got them from he said they will get better after they have ben run in for a bit.
I can tell you the gear box on the VFR has never been that smooth and damn near friction less when combined with the R.E.M coatings on every surface in the gearbox.

Re: Ceramic bearings anyone ?
theres a download guide for ceramic motorcycle bearings and prices, not much use as vfr are not listed wheel bearing wise, in dollars only. bocabearings.com.

Re: Ceramic bearings anyone ?
I'll dig the name up when I get home but the guy we used had us send him the bearings that were not readily available and he rebuilt them with for us using ceramics.der~kire wrote:theres a download guide for ceramic motorcycle bearings and prices, not much use as vfr are not listed wheel bearing wise, in dollars only. bocabearings.com.
The only ones that we have not been able to get were a transmission shaft needle bearing on themain shaft and the large needle bearing for the rear wheel but we haven't given up on those yet.

Re: Ceramic bearings anyone ?
Are ceramic bearings durable enough for front wheel bearings? Dont' forget about the impact of potholes / wheelies etc etc.
The rear hub has a needleroller and a Koyo 6908RS I think (don't quote me on that) double bearing race..
Disc brakes always drag a little anyway.
Personally I'da thought ceramic wheel bearings would be one of the very last things to do after everything else has been super-tweaked as on their own you probaly won't notice any difference!
How about Micro blue racing and the many similar companies if you like to reduce friction.
http://www.microblueracing.com/custom_shop/friction.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Oh and i dont' mean to sound negative, they deffo are an improvement, but wether its noticeable... if somethings good everybody tends to copy it
and were all not rolling on china to quote spike!
like 60% more eff sounds good on paper.. but if the std wheel bearings are already more efficent than needbe ceramic are just wasted!
get a standard new set of koyo's for £4 and spend the rest on beer or petrol :0
